I Am A Failure – The Biggest Lie Out There

"I am a failure."  I don't care who you are, or what your struggles have been, or what you have "achieved", or if you are an entrepreneur or not.  At some point, for some period of time you have (or will) feel "I am a failure."

It is time to take a stand, in this very moment. It is time to make a change... and get your ass back on the path of progress.  An amazing, one hundred plus TPEs have contributed to this blog to turn your "failure" around.  Give them the justice of reading their tips, and give yourself the justice of doing them!

1. Zen of Success

Why You're Not A Failure: You have succeeded in being here today. You may think that is a small thing but it gives you the potential for the greatest of achievements. Be yourself and you may fail but you will never be a failure.

Thanks To: Scott Lovingood of The Wealth Squad Inc

2. 4 Lessons From a Failed Entrepreneur

Why You're Not A Failure: From bootstrap to 3x Inc. 500 to the brink of failure - these are the four lessons I learned from my greatest failures:
1) Fast growth can be dangerous to your health;
2) The light of optimism can be blinding;
3) Easy money isn't cheap;
4) Nothing replaces a solid foundation

Thanks To: John Stepleton of knowledge-fulcrum

3. Unconventional Wisdom: No Is Not A Viable Answer.

Why You're Not A Failure: Do not accept conventional wisdom, or less than 100% effort. Many of the world’s most successful business owners and corporations were built of a simple premise of providing value that did not exist elsewhere. If everyone listened to naysayers, there would be no innovation in business. I’ve built my success off of the backs of unqualified managers and business owners that said I couldn’t do it. Thank you to those people for inspiring me to prove them wrong.

Thanks To: Kent Lewis of Anvil Media, Inc.

4. Don't Allow Your Potential to Remain Hidden.

Why You're Not A Failure: You may have a skill that goes unrecognized in your present environment. Do not seek to hide that skill. Share your abilities with others. Some day you may meet someone who can make use of your abilities. Then, you will no longer look like a failure.

Thanks To: Sue Chehrenegar of freelance writer

5. Who Controls Your Daily Life?

Why You're Not A Failure: People only have the power over you that you give them.

Thanks To: Ian Coburn of Best Possible Choice

6. Room For Everyone

Why You're Not A Failure: The universe has room for everyone to succeed, just keep maneuvering into position and move when needed. Stay sure that you belong in this world contributing and it will open up for you.

Thanks To: Maura McCarthy of Maura's View

7. Failure Is A Result Not A Person

Why You're Not A Failure: Failure is a result not a person; all success stories look like failures until they succeed.
Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the lightbulb. He persisted; you can, too.
Believe in yourself, because what you believe determines what you achieve.

Thanks To: Linda Caroll of Linda Caroll Design

8. When Hope Spikes, So Do Your Problems!

Why You're Not A Failure: There is a psychological reality that all entrepreneurs should take to heart. The minute you begin to pursue your most meaningful dreams, negative emotions will hit you the hardest. The trick is to anticipate this phenomenon, learn to tolerate the discomfort, and endure. The more hope you start out with, the harder the psychological punch will be. However, the evidence shows success lies on the other side of this negative interference. Keep pushing past failure, and the sting of it will subside, endurance is the key to unlocking your dreams!

Thanks To: Mark Jones of The Life Calling Coach

9. You Are Always Beating Someone

Why You're Not A Failure: In the race of life, there are always people in front of you. BUT there are also people behind you, as well as those who are sitting at home on the couch snarfing down chips. Why compare yourself to those ahead of you? Why not be proud that you are out there and not home watching Bachelor reruns?

Thanks To: Elizabeth Lombardo of Control Stress For Good

10. Failure - The Key to Passion

Why You're Not A Failure: Every experience - the good, bad and ugly, has in it the opportunity to discover our personal gifts. As we discover our gifts we are also given the key to living a life of passion. I have yet to work with a client whose unique set of failures and successes did not have within them the key to discovering their passion. How can that be a bad thing?

Thanks To: Amanda Maynard of Energy Works

11. Alive and Have Both my Ears

Why You're Not A Failure: When things seem bleak, I tell myself "hey Van Gogh never sold a painting until he died" #1 I am alive making money #2 I have both of my ears. Could be worse!

Thanks To: Ellen Cagnassola of SweetSoaps

12. Regional Marketing Specialist

Why You're Not A Failure: If birds of a feather flock together then you shouldn't be the most successful person you know. If you want to change your attitude from feeling like a failure to feeling successful then surround yourself with positive and successful Entrepreneurs and Centers of Influences that will encourage you to rise to their level.

Thanks To: Sarah Cochran of American National Insurance Company

13. Failure Precedes Success

Why You're Not A Failure: "Failure is often that early morning hour of darkness which precedes the dawning of the day of success." by Leigh Mitchell Hodges

Thanks To: Carrie Kerskie of Marcone Investigations, Inc., dba Cyber Safety Institute

14. You are Unique

Why You're Not A Failure: Your message is unique. There is only ONE person who has YOUR perfect blend of unique qualities, passions, technical knowledge & life experience. Focusing on your unique abilities will undoubtedly make you the SUCCESS that you desire to be.

Thanks To: Loralee Hutton of Red2Black Inc

15. You're Not Failing, You're Practicing!

Why You're Not A Failure: “Starting a business is a lot like learning a new sport…Even if you’re a natural—and especially if you’re not—it’s going to take a lot of practice and doing things wrong before you get it right. You might even need coaching to really be successful. But remember, no matter what happens with your business you’re never a failure; you’re just practicing until you get it right!”

Thanks To: Stacy Karacostas of SuccessStream

16. Don't Subjugate Yourself To Failure

Why You're Not A Failure: Success begets more success that's true. But, failure does not necessarily beget more failure. Failure always begets success. To put it another way, success is not born of success but rather success is born of failure. Look at it that way and you'll realize that failure is literally necessary to achieve the life you desire.

Thanks To: Daniel Herzner of TTIN, LLC

17. Leave the Boohoo Box

Why You're Not A Failure: "Yes you are right, you failed. Now if you'll poke your head outside of your "boohoo box" you'll see that no one else is looking at your box and you'll also see that there are a lot of empty boohoo boxes left by people who dared, failed and dared again. Now lets dare again too."

Thanks To: Gary Unger of Author "How To Be A Creative Genius (in five minutes or less)"

18. Wildly Optomistic

Why You're Not A Failure: I have no place to go but UP - all it takes is one step at a time.

Thanks To: Joyce Finnegan of ROJETI

19. You can be ANYTHING.

Why You're Not A Failure: My mother was a wise woman. She instilled in us the belief that we could be or do anything that we wanted if we just set our minds to it. We each come into the world with a body and a mind to learn. Using those tools to our advantage is what creates success. She also taught us that there IS NO FAILURE, because you learn from your mistakes, and learning is ALWAYS a successful tool.

Thanks To: Zipporah Sandler of Champagne Living

20. Vison Boards make it a reality

Why You're Not A Failure: I have a vision board with photos of my dreams and some are coming true already.
Go through magazines and pick out what you want in your life and tack them up on a bulletin board.

Some of the things on my vision board are: Talking to Oprah on her show about my game. My game is sold worldwide. Traveling and speaking to groups around the world about getting organized.
Also, the word Believe...because if you believe it will come true...(Don't listen to anyone who tells you you can't...because you can!)

Thanks To: Leslie Jacobs of Les Is More

21. Growth = Success!

Why You're Not A Failure: Regardless as to how it feels in the moment, whenever you have an opportunity to learn and grow, you have succeeded!

Thanks To: Melissa Ward of NewWard Development, LLC

22. Unwavering Chutzpah

Why You're Not A Failure: I came back from 4 years of homelessness to have a book of poems published at age 63.
If I can stay in the game, you surely can.

Thanks To: Alice Shapiro of Cracked: Timeless Topics of Nature, Courage and Endurance

23. Remember Your Past Successes!

Why You're Not A Failure: If I ever start to get in the dumps or wonder if I'm really successful in business, I look at my portfolio of work I've done or read previous e-mails from satisfied clients. This ALWAYS keeps me going because I use it as a reference point of accomplishments and my "can do" attitude. Remember what made you or motivated you to start your business and why others think you're a star no matter what!

Thanks To: Janet O'Connor of O'Connor Creative

24. You Are Unique and Needed

Why You're Not A Failure: There is no one like you; you are unique. Whatever you have to offer and share.......DO IT WITH PASSION! Setbacks and obstacles can be magical doorways to synchronistic opportunities. You will only regret what you did not do or try.

Thanks To: Carolyn Bartz of Living Your Passion

25. JUST SMILE...

Why You're Not A Failure: Life is easiest lived on the giving side of a genuine smile.

Thanks To: Joe Minock of WhatUNeedLocal.com

26. From All I Learn

Why You're Not A Failure: A "failure" is actually a powerful learning experience that you don't ever have to repeat again, but will save you valuable time, energy, resource and emotion in the future (and has nothing to do with YOU as a person!).

Think of it this way:
From
All
I
Learn
Understand
Remember
Evaluate

Thanks To: Melissa Williams of Live Your Creative Life

27. Define Success and You Succeed

Why You're Not A Failure: As a professional historian and a graduate of a military college (VMI), "winning a war" is all about getting your opponent to give up his resolve. You don't have to kill all the enemy or win all, or even any, of the battles, rather simply get him to give up his resolve to fight you while you keep your resolve to fight him...and YOU WIN.

It's the same with entrepreneurial success and failure, for the trick is defining success and failure for yourself. Making gobs of money has little to do with it, for if you persevere and can stay afloat in work that you love and believe in, how can you not be winning?

Thanks To: Richard Cheatham of Living History Associates, Ltd.

28. This May Not Be Obvious

Why You're Not A Failure: Remember that nothing changes, if nothing changes. Ask someone who knows nothing about your business, to share what’s missing in your current business model.

Thanks To: Joel Libava of Franchise Selection Specialists Inc.

29. Develop a Positive Focus

Why You're Not A Failure: Developing a positive focus is as easy as listing out your daily achievements (even the simplest ones), asking yourself why they are achievements, what would be further progress, and finally yet most importantly whats your first action. I picked this tool up at the Strategic Coach and doing it for 21 consecutive days helped me develop a habit of positive momentum!

Thanks To: Michael Kaloutas of SEAL-A-DECK

30. Failure In Perspective

Why You're Not A Failure: When people talk about you, you are networking. It's up to you, however, to fuel what they are are saying about you.

Thanks To: Scott Cooksey of Cooksey Connects

31. STOP Being So Successful At Getting Everything You Don't Want!

Why You're Not A Failure: It has been proven scientifically that the mind is a natural goal seeking mechanism (a psycho cybernetic system). It can only ACT to get you everything that it thinks you want -we are always successful 100% of the time. It’s just that some focus on the negative (worry) and thus have become incredibly successful at getting everything they DON’T want.

The good news is that you are always successful. Your mind simply cannot fail. It’s not possible.

Thanks To: Rhondalynn Korolak of Imagineering Unlimited

32. Ask Yourself Why Not!

Why You're Not A Failure: To encourage myself each morning, no matter what happened (or didn't happen) the day before, I always wake up and say to myself: "Do not look back and ask why - look forward and ask 'why not!'"

Thanks To: Shannon Cutts of MentorCONNECT: Where Relationships Replace Eating Disorders

33. Harvesting Success

Why You're Not A Failure: Research, trial and error, commitment and patience are the ingredients for success. First we need to plant the seeds of our business, harvest the grain that is available to our business, prepare the flour for our business, mix the dough in our business and bake the foundation of our business before we get to savor the bread of our business, which is our success. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

Thanks To: Elaine Stephen of Inspirational Gift Gallery

34. You Must Fail To Succeed!

Why You're Not A Failure: For the mere fact that you made an attempt to succeed doesn't make you a failure. Failing is inevitable but it's how you deal with it. If you pick yourself up & take every piece of knowledge you gained you can catapult yourself to success. All successful people have failed but because they were "consistent persistent" they became winners . The next time the F word crosses your mind. Think about how much closer you are to the S word.

Thanks To: Ungenita Prevost of Ungenita Beauty

35. Tell the Truth--Out Loud!

Why You're Not A Failure: Think you've failed at something? Give words to that thought. In fact, speak them aloud, but MAKE SURE THEY ARE THE RIGHT WORDS! "I am a failure" is not the truth. Tell the truth: "I failed at making my August goal...but there's still time to make September's." "My marketing campaign didn't net the results I needed...but here's what I learned that I can apply to the next campaign." The words we use to describe our perceived "failure" determine our next step of action... or inaction.

Thanks To: Karen Linamen of Humorous Speaker

36. Yes You! Yes Now!

Why You're Not A Failure: Take action and take it immediately. Simple words clear away the clutter. People who ake that next step remove excuses and make things happen. Yes you! Yes now!

Thanks To: Steve Tarr of Columbia-Capstone

37. It's OK to Get Sacked

Why You're Not A Failure: Failure is simply choosing not to continue forward. As long as you are taking steps, even small steps, toward your goal, you are not a failure. Surround yourself with people who see setbacks as opportunities to improve. Like any good quarterback will tell you, “being sacked for a loss only means having the opportunity to throw for more yards.”

Thanks To: Troy Scheer of TRANCE Marketing Group

38. Alternative Success Paths Beyond Money

Why You're Not A Failure: Money does not measure success. Money is simply a means to achieving goals. There are plenty of other ways to achieve any goal without needing to make a fortune.

Thanks To: Shel Horowitz of Accurate Writing & More

39. Run The Ball, Don't Pass

Why You're Not A Failure: Take it in baby steps; getting to the goal line is daunting, running 2 yards at a time isn’t.

Thanks To: Carol Pulitzer of Butterfly & Company

40. Staying Positive Opens Other Doors

Why You're Not A Failure: When you keep a positive outlook on things then you understand that there are no failures, only lessons to be learned and other opportunities to be had. A door may slam in your face, but accepting it, releasing it, and learning from it will allow another door (or two) to open!

Thanks To: Kat Rogers of Self Symmetry

41. LEARN From Your Failures

Why You're Not A Failure: We all fail! But it is what we do with that failure that determines our outcome. Instead of focusing on what went wrong, focus on the positive and what you can change to make it better. When we LEARN from our failures we mold ourselves into a beautiful success story that will touch the lives of many.

Thanks To: Cheryl Hill of Simply Working From Home

42. Positive Frame Of Mind

Why You're Not A Failure: Take positive things out of everything (including the bad) which happens to you as it would become a benefit in the long run.

Thanks To: Akash Sharma of Revenue Strategy Solutions Ltd.

43. Try Something Else

Why You're Not A Failure: Great News! You've eliminated one wrong path on the road to success. Now you're that much closer, so choose a new one and get to work!

Thanks To: Bradley Wogsland of Wogsland.org

44. Spend your "Failure Wisely"

Why You're Not A Failure: Write down two or three "failures" and two or three "successes" in your life then, beside each one, make a list of what nuggets of wisdom you gained from each experience. "Failure"-related nuggets far surpass "success"-related nuggets, don't they? In other words, "failure" creates the stuff that, invested wisely, nets success. It's a strange economy, but the next time you "think" you've failed, think again--then go out and invest all that hard-won wisdom wisely.

Thanks To: Karen Linamen of Humorous Speaker

45. Failure Is Forward Momentum

Why You're Not A Failure: View a failure as action that didn't work. Determine what didn't work, make an adjustment and try again. Give yourself credit for taking action. All successful people have failed more times than they have succeeded. Eventually, the momentum will change to successes. You just have to keep trying.

Thanks To: Paula Harvey of Life Aligned

46. You Created Courage

Why You're Not A Failure: My mom has said a zillion times, "This too shall pass", which is an invaluable thing to keep in mind. Always look for the lesson in the "thing that did not turn out the way you wanted it to", remembering that you created the courage to even try in the first place. Be kind to yourself and be grateful for all wonderful things that you do have and that have gone well. Never lose perspective: I cried because I had no shoes, then I saw a man who had no feet.

Thanks To: Jackie Gordon of Divalicious Chocolate

47. Failure Is A Perception

Why You're Not A Failure: Those who fail believe they have, because they do not see the immediate results they want. The important point to remember is that results are not always instantaneous. Sometimes there is a lag of time before something happens. However, if you are following in the same steps as successful people, you can only be successful.

Thanks To: Harry Husted of Creating Words

48. Your Trial Is A Trail

Why You're Not A Failure: If you change the a and i around in the word TRIAL it spells out TRAIL. No one is exempt from having tribulations and no TPE is excused from becoming a natural born trailblazer.

Thanks To: Derrick Hayes of WOE Enterprises

49. The Next Idea Is Always Better

Why You're Not A Failure: Always remember that it's just the business that failed, not you. Businesses fail, successful entrepreneurs move on and keep churning out fresh ideas believing that the next one will likely be better than the last.

Thanks To: Ingrid Riley of Connectimass

50. Loser or Winner Forever

Why You're Not A Failure: "If you think that you are looser right now you will always be loser.Winning or loosing is not about what you have, it's about what you are."

Thanks To: Vishal Pandya of Systec International Inc.,

51. Lincoln, Edison And Other Flops

Why You're Not A Failure: Ever read Lincoln's bio? If ever a "loser" attained the highest office, it was this one (see for yourself: http://tinyurl.com/2vrmtc). Edison didn't regard the shards of glass beneath his feet as "failures," but simply discoveries of how not to make a lightbulb. It's called "failing forward," or as Entrepreneurial Guru, Rocky Balboa said, "it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."

Thanks To: Anthony Rotolo of Rocket Ride Books

52. Celebrate the "Try"

Why You're Not A Failure: The quote " Nothing beats a failure but a try!" is so true. If we did not "try" out a new idea or strategy, we would never know whether it works. Instead on focusing on the negative, turn it into a positive by celebrating the "try". Use the lessons learned as an opportunity for change and improvements, so that you next venture can be successful.

Thanks To: LaNorma Huggins-Hopes of Signature Designs by LaNorma

53. The Impostor Syndrome

Why You're Not A Failure: 1. The Fraud or the Impostor is a natural part of the Shadow or Dark Side of all of us.
2. Some of us have a stronger, more powerful dark side......generally the more sensitive the person, the more pronounced that Fraud will be.
3. The good news is that the Fraud or Impostor is really easy to manage. You simply demand that it present any concrete evidence for your failure. It usually cannot! Then focus on all the evidence to support that you are succeeding.
4. There is a huge difference between failing and BEING a failure. Winners fail all the time.

Thanks To: Nancy Irwin of Dr. Nancy B. Irwin, Psychotherapy/Clinical Hypnosis

54. Be Your Own Best Friend!

Why You're Not A Failure: Most of us are harder on ourselves than just about anybody else. In fact, with our inner critics nagging away in our ears we are often our own worst enemy. So when you are feeling down about yourself try taking a step back and consider what you would tell your best friend or a loved one to pick up their spirits and then say it to YOURSELF instead!

Thanks To: Kirsten Mahoney of Insight Out Life Coaching

55. Create a Shelf-Esteem

Why You're Not A Failure: Beauty may be in the eyes of the beholder but success is in the eyes of the beholden. Think of all the people who are beholden to you--your children, your parents, your neighbors, etc. Put up a small shelf in your office and put photos on it of those who hold you in high esteem for what you have done for them.

Thanks To: Marlene Caroselli of Caroselli

56. TCE PushUp: Nothing Beats a FAILURE, Like a Try

Why You're Not A Failure: First: Accept It: "I tried something, it did not work out, "it" not "I" failed."
Second: Learn From It: "Based on the results (failure), let's not do "THAT"..again."
Third: Period, Space, Space, New Paragraph: Nothing Beats a Failure Like a Try. It's okay to fail or to fall, the problem is refusing to get back up again. So end your failure experience with a: period, provide (2) spaces, and start a new "life" paragraph.

Thanks To: Francina Harrison of TheCareerEngineers.com

57. There's Gotta Be a Pony

Why You're Not A Failure: The tsunamis in life will always wash away those who freeze.

In stories of successful people - common is how a series of near-impossibilities aligned to a success - after many non-successes. They all saw "failures" as rungs on their ladder to success.

Remember the words of the enthusiastic boy shoveling out a horse stall, "There's got to be a pony under here somewhere!"

Thanks To: Rob Cohan of Max International

58. Why does Failure Serve you?

Why You're Not A Failure: Ask Yourself “What are you committed too, Success or Failure. Now ask yourself, What are the benefits to me being a failure”? Why would failing be a GOOD THING for me? Write down your answers on a piece of paper ( important) . Go through EACH one and see if you can figure out where these “beliefs” are coming from. A mother, father, friends, etc. IF a belief sits well with you, then leave it, but if it doesn’t, erase it and exchange it for one that does. This is good news because you can reprogram it with success.

Thanks To: Frankie Picasso of Institute for Quantum Living and Conscious Design

59. Help Someone Else

Why You're Not A Failure: Help yourself by helping someone else. In helping someone else, you will realize you are NOT a failure and you will gain a fresh perspective!

Thanks To: Precious Knudsen of Precious Knudsen

60. The First 39

Why You're Not A Failure: LyricWiki - which now serves 5 million views per day - was the 40th project that I released. I haven't heard anyone call the company a failure because of the other 39.

Thanks To: Sean Colombo of LyricWiki

61. Think SUCCESS!

Why You're Not A Failure: Prepare for Success not Failure. What do you do each day to ensure your business succeeds? It's easier to overcome obstacles when you're focused on a clearly defined, long-term goal.

Thanks To: Eugenia Francis of TeaCHildMath

62. Rockin' Respect

Why You're Not A Failure: If you measure your success in terms of how much respect you create, you can never be a failure. When you are rockin' respect for yourself and others, good things naturally follow.

Thanks To: Jennifer Leigh of Ignite Reality LLC

63. Failure = Figment of Your Imagination

Why You're Not A Failure: Failure is a figment of your imagination and exists only in your mind. Every single step you take is one in the right direction toward success.

Thanks To: Izzy Ginzberg of Guaranteed Success Coach

64. Don't Be Afraid to Fail

Why You're Not A Failure: I have this posted in my office and I read it, sometimes daily:

Don’t Be Afraid to Fail (Anonymous)

You've failed many times, although you may not remember. You fell down the first time you tried to walk. You almost drowned the first time you tried to swim, didn't you? Did you hit the ball the first time you swung a bat? Heavy hitters, the ones who hit the most home runs, also strike out a lot.

R.H. Macy failed seven times before his store in New York caught on.

English novelist John Creasey got 753 rejection slips before he published 564 books.

Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times, but he also hit 714 home runs.

Don't worry about failure.

Worry about the chances you miss when you don't even try.

Thanks To: Sheri L. Singer of Singer Communications

65. It's Within You

Why You're Not A Failure: I think this is key:

One is ready for any challenge NOW. But like Michalangelo sculpting a block of stone, one must remove all the hindrances to success -- bad behaviors, bad people, bad thinking. If one uncovers one's best self (one's passions, desires for good, interests -- unfettered by apprehension), one may invest that newfound energy in the project at hand. It's already there -- uncover it! Wake up!

It is like the poem, "Autobiography in Five Short Chapters", by Portia Nelson.

Thanks To: Lisa Finkelstein of RangerAgainstWar

66. Failing Isn't Failure Until Quitting.

Why You're Not A Failure: Failing at something isn't failure, unless you CHOOSE to quit. Calling yourself a failure is a copout to avoid what scares you. Decide if you believe in what you started. Then generate some faith, research and network to find ways to make it work.

Thanks To: Daylle Deanna Schwartz of Lessons from a Recovering DoorMat

67. Define Success First, Evaluate Second

Why You're Not A Failure: The sense of failure often creeps in from an utter lack of clear and rational goals. Define success, visualize it, outline how you'll get there and, most importantly, understand that what you learn every day can and should change the outline - life (and work) is adaptation.

Thanks To: Mike Tekula of Unstuck Digital

68. Get a "F..OFF" attitude.

Why You're Not A Failure: I love rejection. Scream it with me now...I LOVE REJECTION! Why? Because some of your clearest moments will come after you've taken a swig of that 100 proof F/U Fuel.

Thanks To: Tomi Tuel of Tomi Tuel Books

69. Just Find the Right Opportunity

Why You're Not A Failure: As long as the world has problems, there are opportunities. So clearly there’s no shortage of opportunities, you just haven’t found the right one. Find a problem people are willing to spend money to solve, solve it better than anyone else, and you have a great business.

Thanks To: Steve Tennant of Tennant Consulting

70. Why Failure Is Impossible

Why You're Not A Failure: To declare failure is to proclaim God’s absence, and God is never absent. Therefore, failure is always a temporary or false condition.

Thanks To: Diana Estill of Totally Skewed Productions

71. Get Over Yourself

Why You're Not A Failure: If you feel like a failure - get over yourself. Get up and get focused. It takes work. Even guys like Michael Jordan feel like a failure at times

Vision what you want to build. Conceive, Believe & Achieve.

Thanks To: Cameron Herold of BackPocket COO

72. Transforming Lessons Learned

Why You're Not A Failure: Common sense and clear thinking are more important than lots of models and theories. Stop and examine each good and bad experience in the moment and from these create your own collection of lessons learned. This knowledge, gained empirically rather than by expertise, identifies and highlights incremental, innovative and measurable improvements you can make for your company. By taking advantage of lessons learned, you are replicating successful outcomes while eliminating unsuccessful outcomes; the eventual payoff comes in transforming lessons learned into lessons applied.

Thanks To: Mallary Tytel of Healthy Workplaces

73. Turn Lemons Into Lemonade

Why You're Not A Failure: It’s not the mistakes you make, but how you recover from them. When you are in the action state of mind of an inventor, the recovery process is swift and usually leaves you with a better understanding of the process. In the end, mistakes often lead to better results, like a less expensive part, a better design or sometimes even a whole new idea is born. You are not a failure!

Thanks To: Sarah Shaw of Entreprenette

74. Change Your Focus

Why You're Not A Failure: The key to success, and to not feeling like a failure, is to focus on the goal, not on yourself. If you're thinking, "Here's where I'm going" and then start looking at how to get there, you're too busy building success to think about yourself. People who are not only successful but really happy with their success rarely think "I'm a success," because they are still thinking about the goal, not themselves. So don't think about how you feel, because it's not part of the equation, but rather look at your destination and start planning the trip.

Thanks To: Cynthia Clampitt of World Plate

75. Take Action - Believe in Success

Why You're Not A Failure: Take action and do something productive instead of obsessing about failure. The act of doing (completing tasks, organizing, planning your next successful venture) will keep your mind preoccupied while simultaneously giving you a sense of accomplishment. The time is now to soar...to aspire...to fulfill your wildest dreams. Believe in your success, have fun, and with determination and ACTION, your dreams will flourish.

Thanks To: Celina Taganas-Duffy of Tagline Communications, Inc.

76. No Failure, Only Feedback.

Why You're Not A Failure: 'There is no such thing as failure, there is only feedback.'

No matter what happens, it should not affect ones identity in any way, but rather provide a person with data on what does and does not work that they can then act on and take the next step.

I believe this attitude and belief originated from the creators of NLP, though its use has spread much farther.

Thanks To: Roberto Moretti of Roberto Moretti

77. Feeling "failed?" Invite the magic!

Why You're Not A Failure: No matter your mood, ask yourself: What little, mortal, baby steps can I take today that will demonstrate expectancy, prepare for my dreams manifestation and above all place me within reach of life's magic!

Thanks To: Terry Kohl of Incredible Things Marketing

78. Where the Light Shines Through

Why You're Not A Failure: "There's a crack in everything, that's how the light gets through."

Simple, but life changing for me. You can look at cracks in your best-laid plans and find an even better solution to the problem you encountered.

79. Afform Your Way to Success

Why You're Not A Failure: No, that's not a misprint. AFFORMATIONS are empowering questions (not "affirmations") that train your brain to focus on what you do RIGHT instead of what you do WRONG. Ask yourself, "Why am I so successful?" and you'll start to realize there's more to be grateful for than you thought.

80. Hang Your Balls Out There!

Why You're Not A Failure: "That's how you become great, man. Hang your balls out there!" One of my favorite lines from "Jerry Maguire".

Most people are risk averse. They fantasize about "one day" starting their own company, but they never do it. But you're already doing it. You're already hangin' your balls out there!

Starting a business and taking that entrepreneurial leap is, in itself, a great accomplishment.

After all...if it were easy, everybody would be doing it.

81. 100 Times Rule

Why You're Not A Failure: If you’re feeling deflated, practice the 100 times rule. I developed this rule when I moved to NYC years ago with my husband and I wanted to live in Park Slope in Brooklyn. We knew we couldn’t afford it, so we posted 100 posters around Park Slope to see if someone would respond and, sure enough, someone called and we landed our dream apartment! Don’t underestimate the power of persistence – never give up unless you’ve come up with 100 different creative solutions to solve the problem.

82. Where True Value Lies

Why You're Not A Failure: When I am feeling really low, I envision the births of each of my five children, three of whom I helped deliver and one of whom I delivered solo, and all is well and good in the world. With wife as beautiful, sexy, smart and strong as mine plus such wonderful, spirited, gifted, challenging and beautiful children standing behind me, I cannot fail.

83. Networking -- Be Fearless

Why You're Not A Failure: Do not let fear be your life’s dictator! By networking extensively and meeting new people, you will increase the visibility of your brand.

Thanks To: Ivbaria Akhabue of Nieuw Amsterdam Kitchens

84. Failure Does Not Have Motion

Why You're Not A Failure: Failure occurs when you stop and give-up; success is the attempt. If you stop one action because it doesn't work, your action on the next path is success. Remember, failure does not have motion -- success does.

Thanks To: Kate Nasser of The People-Skills Coach

85. Failure is a Worthy Opponent!

Why You're Not A Failure: Think of failure as a worthy opponent. A champion is always measured by the strength of his opponents. Think of any failure as a loss. Don't waste time obsessing about the loss; train harder to come back and defeat this worthy opponent. Now you're fully engaged in the process of perfection and moving toward success!

Thanks To: Jim Bouchard of America's Black Belt POWERVATOR

86. So What's Wrong With That?

Why You're Not A Failure: You are NOT a failure; you are merely SUCCESSUALLY CHALLENGED. Foot-soldiers are necessary for the success of generals. You and millions like you are the basis for the success of the few of us at the top and in this way you play a crucial role in the success of other people.

Explanation for this contrarian approach to the problem

(Provocative Therapy is the cutting edge in the use of Reverse Psychology and Humor in therapy. Of course clients need to give permission for you to use this approach. But their response to Provocative Therapy and provocative 'advice' as above, is to locate the solution to their problem inside themselves, articulate it and enact it. They are provoked to asserting themselves positively and that is a whole lot different from being told 'You are not a failure' in any serious way because it's always going to sound patronizing and condescending. The normal response to the 'suggestion' above would be to laugh and assert strong character traits.

Thanks To: Brian Kaplan of Provocative Therapist

87. What is Failure Anyways?

Why You're Not A Failure: Only you decide what failure is. If you adjust your mindset to see "failure" as an essential step to success, you have decided to use it as a tool rather than a handicap. Create your own belief system about failure- The one that serves you best in enhancing your potential.

Thanks To: Tom Reen of Life Actually

88. Secret Service- Style

Why You're Not A Failure: I've learned to openly accept failure. Why? It teaches me yet another way NOT to do something. When I learn enough ways NOT to do something, the RIGHT way has automatically engineered itself.

Thanks To: Jeff Hopeck of Hopeck Ventures, LLC

89. Humans Aren't Trash Cans

Why You're Not A Failure: Failure is not real, it's a state-of-mind. Thinking you are a failure is a wasteful state-of-mind...And we all know, a mind is a terrible thing to waste!

Thanks To: JT O'Donnell of CAREEREALISM.com

90. Redefine Success

Why You're Not A Failure: Your courage to take on a venture means you've taken on LIFE, a success
many will never feel.

91. If You Haven´t Tried, You Haven´t Lived.

Why You're Not A Failure: Fear often holds people back from achieving what they want in their life. Fear of failure is even more powerful than desire or attraction as motivators. Therefore the main quality shared by those who achieve Greatness is no super power, it´s the mere ability to take action.\r\n\r\n

Thanks To: Alexandra S. Martinez of Eloquent Books

92. Business Presentation Strategist

Why You're Not A Failure: Being a failure, just as being successful, is relative. One person's worst-case-scenario is another's best-case-scenario. The trick is to not fall into the comparison trap. Comparing yourself to others is pointless, since there will always be someone who's "got it better". Success and failure need to be defined only by you and your family. Besides, do we ever truly fail? Or do we just learn from our mistakes and move on?

Thanks To: Shari' Alexander of Presenting Matters

93. Perseverance and Pep

Why You're Not A Failure: Talk to yourself. When I have failed at different things, I don’t consider it the end. Just repeat over and over in your head, the idea is great, the concept is fabulous, and the title failure is only earned if you stop. The best person to give yourself a pep talk is you! \r\n

Thanks To: Natalie Wardel of The Bobby Pin

94. 3 Questions for Worried Entrepreneurs

Why You're Not A Failure: 1- Are you telling a compelling personal story through your product or service with unwavering belief and passion?
2- Is your story short and easy to grasp for its intended audience?
3- Most importantly, Do you REALLY believe your own story?

If you answer yes, and really mean it, but you are not yet making money, DON'T GIVE UP. If the answer is no, you are in the wrong project and need to find the right one to realize your entrepreneurial dream.

95. It's None of Your Business!

Why You're Not A Failure: If you feel like a failure because others view you as a failure, just remember: What other people think of you is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! You are the one who knows the truth so don't give others the power to determine your success. Your opinion of yourself is what's important, not what someone else thinks!

96. Gain Better Customers

Why You're Not A Failure: If you win a customer by price, you will lose them by price.

Thanks To: Matt Daoudi of Xtreme Lashes Eyelash Extensions

97. Learn from Failure

Why You're Not A Failure: As my friend George Levy quoted today"Succes is never final, and failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts." -George F. Tilton

Thanks To: Molly Muir of Obsidian Software

98. Failure-Proof Your Mind

Why You're Not A Failure: There is a lot of powerful research that shows that people who see failures as growth opportunities succeed more than those who see mistakes as failures. It's called having a growth mindset. The questions to ask yourself to create a growth mindset is: How can I learn from this? How can I do better next time? Contact me if you want more on how to create a growth mindset.

Thanks To: M.J. Ryan of Professional Thinking Partners

99. Create Your Success Path

Why You're Not A Failure: Stop your brain from running down the old failure path in your forest of life. Every time you stop the old failure thought and say the new thought you stop using the path and allow it to grow over. Tell yourself you are confident and successful, and soon you'll be running down your new path of success.

Thanks To: Dalena Watson of Personal Journeys

100. Failure Can Be Fun

Why You're Not A Failure: Some of my favorite moments of being in business were when our company was at its worst. Sitting in a dive bar, contemplating our next move, we couldn't imagine how we'd dig ourselves out ... Then we did. So suck it up! Embrace those brief moments of failure, then get back to work.

Thanks To: Ryan Paugh of Brazen Careerist

101. Success equals Wants, Responses, and Choices

Why You're Not A Failure: Start by going after what you want. Even if things don’t go as planned, how you respond next, determines your success. Choose to respond by reassessing what you want, learning from what went wrong, taking action, responding to that action, and choosing to respond powerfully to the next action. Remember, no single action achieves success. Success = action + correction (repeatedly).

Thanks To: Dayan Douse, PhD of P.R.I.D.E Consulting

102. HOW IS LIFE TREATING YOU!

Why You're Not A Failure: 1. WHEN YOU MAKE A MISTAKE, MAKE A BAD DECISION/CHOICE OWN UP TO IT - WE ALL DO AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER IN OUR LIVES.

2. Know that: THE UNIVERSE IS WORKING IN DIVINE RIGHT ORDER FOR YOUR HIGHEST AND GREATEST GOOD. <<<

3. WHEN YOU KNOW BETTER, DO BETTER. (the sooner you change the better life will be in the long run)

Thanks To: BRIGITTE BROWN of BROWN OLIVE NATURAL SKIN CARE, INC.

103. Success and Failure are a Team

Why You're Not A Failure: Failure and Success are on the same road and work as a team for your success. As you travel along the road of success, failure will only show up if you are not on the right path and/or not equipped with the appropriate tools. When failure does show up,it demands to be used as fuel to propel your success train to its final destination.

Thanks To: Adalia John of Circle of Enlightenment

104. Five “Self-Compassion” Techniques

Why You're Not A Failure: Avoid ego-protective strategies when facing failure, because they obstruct learning, instead show self-compassion
Be caring toward yourself while going through “the hard times” after failure. Realize that your are in an emotionally vulnerable state, and don’t “push” emotional issues too far
Remind yourself that most people feel bad over failure, which requires a process of discovery that takes time
Tolerate your own flaws and inadequacies, especially those that contributed to the failure
Maintain a distinction between the failure event and your self-worth

105. Been There

Why You're Not A Failure: Others have been there, actually many, many others.  When you feel like a failure... seek out others who have been there, and find out how they turned it around.

Thanks To: Anonymous

106. Thomas Edison Knows About Failure!

Why You're Not A Failure: Failure? NOT! compared to whom? or to what? some things are meant to let go of. that's called being smart! redefine success! Wayne Dyer says:

"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."

Thanks To: Ritzya Ritzya of the drama coach

107. Never quit

Why You're Not A Failure: If you never quit, you cannot lose.

Thanks To: Brian Rouff of Imagine Marketing

108. Flip Failure to Your Advantage

Why You're Not A Failure: Emotionally speaking, our fear of failure is simply a signal asking you if you believe and trust yourself enough to move forward or if you believe in the messages of lack more. The bigger the fear the more you have to gain, as fear is the ego’s way of keeping you small. Once you see the game of the ego, you can use the message of fear of failure to actually support you to tap into your passion to move you forward. In other words, what you have to gain must be good, otherwise the ego wouldn’t bother.

Thanks To: Michelle Bersell of Michelle Bersell Life Coaching

109. Action Is The Magic Word.

Why You're Not A Failure: Share your frustration/anger/upset with an understanding colleague and commit to an immediate action that will move you forward. Taking an action will create new outcomes and will become the underpinning for your success. The fear doesn’t go away. Plus, the muscle you’re flexing to overcome the fear grows stronger every time you use it.

110. Failed Attempts Mean Gained Knowledge

Why You're Not A Failure: There are NO failures. Trying something new takes guts and ambition. You've not lost anything - you've LEARNED something. Take that lesson with you, grow from it and use it to succeed as you summon your courage to step forward again.

Thanks To: Katie Mattson of Momentum Coaching

111. You Cannot Learn From Failure!

Why You're Not A Failure: Look at the situation where you think you have failed and determine three things you have learned from the situation. Those three things are concrete proof that the situation was not a failure but rather a learning experience.

Thanks To: Dustin Weeks of Lessons From a Recovering Worker Bee

112. Open your ears and LISTEN

Why You're Not A Failure: Get over your kleptophobia and start sharing your ideas with others, you will quickly realize how helpful it is to have a different perspective. Really LISTEN to what others have to say and it will help you a lot more than you think.

Thanks To: Nicholas Kling of Give Back a Pack

113. Fearless

Thanks for this post, Mike. It was a much needed kick in the ass.

So many of these pieces of advice really resonated with me. Too many times when a project or business of fails we as entrepreneurs/small business owners take it personally = “I am a failure.” And it’s not true. As several of the advice-givers noted, failure is not a person, it’s a result, an experiment that didn’t work out the way we hoped, a momentary setback, or the powers that be telling us to try again.

Michael Jordan, one of the all-time great basketball players of our time, was constantly told in high school and in college that he didn’t have what it took to be great. But instead of saying “yeah, you’re right,” Jordan worked harder, to prove his coaches wrong — and went on to become a legend.

Yes, not everyone is a Michael Jordans or Thomas Edisons, but everyone can learn from their failures and succeed at something.

Great way to kick some butt Mike! Too many people let the idea of failure control them and they fail because of their own minds. Another great one, Mike. The truth is, often times our only failure is our perception of ourselves as failures. The ironies of life.

@MikeMichalowicz…“I am tired of hearing “I am a failure” from people (and in my own head, too). Tomorrow I am doing a post that will destroy that belief.”

That tweet, @MikeMichalowicz, inspired me. I, too, am so tired of hearing that I’m a failure…from myself. So, today, my 39th birthday, I say – actually I scream ENOUGH!!! I am more than good enough as a mom, a wife, a coach, an entrepreneur, a friend, a daughter, a sister….I am more than good enough as me.

Sure, I have my downfalls. (Ahem, my cooking skills may never rival Rachel Ray or Martha Stewart. Heck, I’ve been know to butcher Chef Boyardee’s fare. That doesn’t make me a failure though.) Yet, I am not failure, and failure is not me. Failure is now just a state of awareness, an opportunity to learn, a chance to shine.

So, thank you for that reminder @MikeMichalowicz, and thank you for this awesome post. It was spot-on.

    95. It’s None of Your Business!

Thanks for giving us all an opportunity to share some of our knowledge and more than likely help someone who’s been thinking they’re a failure. Having so many different viewpoints is great because no matter how wonderful a “quote” is, it won’t resonate with every person.

I’ve got to tell you, I’m one of those people who started with nothing except a computer, with an idea to help other women (of a certain age) and within 5 years my picture appeared in TIME magazine and I was part of a PBS special on women’s health. I was starting to feel successful and then I got this letter from my Mother: “I have watched you sit on your butt and eke out a very scant living for yourself, while you were able, physically and intellectually, to get out and get a job, plus do your computer work to supplement your real-job income. Your web site abilities are commendable. But, all you did was sit at home so you could watch your soaps and Oprah every afternoon.” Now, THAT is why my tip is not to let others’ opinions determine if you’re a success or a failure! Have faith in yourself and you’ll ALWAYS be a success!

It’s wonderful to see that so many people have found ways to keep moving forward, whether with positive attitudes or positive actions, and then were able to articulate it to encourage others. Not every tip will work for every person, but there are so many choices, most people should be able to find several that work for them. I’m thrilled to have been included (#74) in such a solid resource.

My wife received this quote from her father when she we just a kid. it was laminated and today it is all yellow but still hangs in our kitchen to keep my wife’s spirits up and give direction to our two boys.

    Don’t Be Afraid to Fail

You’ve failed many times, although you may not remember. You fell down the first time you tried to walk. You almost drowned the first time you tried to swim, didn’t you? Did you hit the ball the first time you swung a bat? Heavy hitters, the ones who hit the most home runs, also strike out a lot.

R.H. Macy failed seven times before his store in New York caught on.

English novelist John Creasey got 753 rejection slips before he published 564 books.

Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times, but he also hit 714 home runs.

    Don’t worry about failure.

Worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try.

I liked #6 “just keep maneuvering into position and move when needed.” It reminds me of Cervantes quote, “Paciencia y barajar” [have patience and keep shuffling the cards.

this is a bunch of crap.  who are you people? i am and will always be a failure.  mostly its from environment. there is no amount of talking to myself or internet talk groups that will fix this. i live these sayings every day just to stay above ground, nevermind being used for success. apparently most people are born rich, and have oppertunities.  i have to struggle every day in life, fight for every little scrap of dignity i have.  i am not a hater, but hearing all of you people whine about paltry little crap makes me sick.  How many of you actually had to deal with a hopeless future? (No home, food, family, etc)  Im guessing not many.  So stop crying because you cant get that one thing in life, when you have had almost everything handed to you.
