    Hi Mike,
This is really useful information. You systemized a promising method. Will be using it. Definitely! Thanks a lot. Wil sign up for Aweber and Google instantly. Than will come back often to this video to learn new steps every time.
Will you keep this video posted here for us to keep reviewing it?

  • Mike Michalowicz

@Stan – Please review as often as you want. This will be up for at least 1 month (for security purposes we may need to take it down or re-invoke a new password). But as a TFM member you can always reach out to me and I will make sure you get access.

A-weber is an excellent tool, and Google is just amazing. Happy you are taking steps already.

I just spoke to my mum……told her I was back at school again…homework accountability !!!!!!
    See you later.

  • http://www.businessvictories.com Cheri Ruskus

Why did you choose Email Marketing Pro as opposed to Constant Contact? I have been using Constant Contact for the past several years. Learning alot of new programs seems a little daunting with all there is now to be done!!!

  • http://www.businessvictories.com Cheri Ruskus

I am having a tough time getting the video to play continuously keeps stalling out and I can’t get past the first 10 minutes. I am on Mac 10.5.7.

  • Mike Michalowicz

@Cheri – The host provider for the video is VIMEO.com and they have noted problems with Safari. So if you are using safari, that could be the problem. Please try downloading Mozilla and see if that fixes it.

  • Mike Michalowicz

@Cheri – Email Marketing Pro is free, hence why I suggested it. If you have an alternative you like and use, then ABSOLUTELY USE THAT. The key is not the tools so much (I just made suggestions on what has been successful for me), but it is the process that is key.

I have heard Constant Contact is an excellent tool and can be used for email collection for blog contributors AND prospects at your site.

  • http://www.sayebusiness.nl Stan Lenssen

    @Cheri
Read about your problem. I am using Mac 10.5.7. Have no problems with it. Maybe you should indeed use Mozilla Firefox, or check out to see if you are using the latest Safari (v 4.0.2) which should be running fine with the video (works for me!).

    Great info!
But Mike what if the website sucks??!!!

I have clients who are looking for SEO and want to get listed on the first page in a very comparative market but have a totally crappy website which is ugly and contains very little info about WHO they are and WHAT they do.

Shouldn’t they review their own site and make sure it’s great before spending a bit of time/ money on SEO?

    -B

  • Mike Michalowicz

@Betty – GREAT, GREAT, GREAT question. Short answer, don’t use their site… but get a dedicated blog. Will answer in more detail on tonight’s call.

    - Mike

  • http://www.businessvictories.com Cheri Ruskus

How much attention should you pay to bounce rates on Google Analytics?

  • Mike Michalowicz

@Cheri – Bounce rates combined with time on site is what matters. So bounces over 80% and time on site under 10 seconds, make me real nervous.

Most importantly watch the trends. Ideally we want less bounce rates and more time on the site!

    - Mike

  • http://www.sayebusiness.nl Stan Lenssen

@everyone and especially @Robert (believe from Australia) @Cheri (was it Colorado?) @Sherry (from Florida, that’s for sure)

Yesterday I attended the call and I noticed that many questions came up regarding WordPress. Like: must I use the free WordPress version, can it help improve crappy websites, can I use my own domain name with it, and so on.
I have some knowledge on this subject and I promised you all to put it in the queue here. Oké, so here it comes.

WordPress is one of the best blogging tools available at this moment. In fact, in just a few years it has become much more than merely a blogging tool. WordPress is like a full grown content management system. It makes it possible to develop very professional websites at very low costs. I would not be surprised to hear WordPress being the world’s market leader at it’s field these days.

Enough of the greatness of WordPress.

WordPress is available in two versions:
    1. Hosted by WordPress at http://wordpress.com/
    2. Downloadable version at http://wordpress.org/

Both versions are FREE to use, without any payment towards WordPress.

Version 1 is hosted at WordPress. It is not very flexible. You have just a few themes (the look and feel of your site) to pick from. And, much more important, you cannot use your own domain name. That means you always bound to a domain name that looks like: yourname.wordpress.com (so wordpress.com is always in the name).

Version 2 is downloadable. I woul always recommend to use this version. You have than full access to the source code and can place at any hosting company you like. Of course some costs are involved then (not many) but you have three BIG advantages:
    1. Lots of themes available (many are for free) and many are very professional. So no more crappy websites!!
    2. Lots of plugins available, which make WordPress VERY, VERY, VERY flexible. There are literally thousands of plugins. You name your wishes for your website. There is always a plugin that serves your needs. And what’s even better. They are all for FREE (well, almost all are).
    3. You can use your own domain name, because you keep the hosting to yourself or your hosting provider. This is must more powerful than when you have to use a name with wordpress.com in it. You only have to think of search engines to understand the advantage. But it is also much better for branding purposes. After all, you want to establish YOUR name and not the name WordPress.

Oké, that’s my info about WordPress. I can very well understand that there are questions among my fellow TFM-members. Please than do not hesitate. It makes me happy when I can help you with this. Just drop the questions at this forum, my e-mail address in the TPE-index here http://www.toiletpaperentrepreneur.com/community/index.php, or visit my contactform and drop your question there http://sayebusiness.nl/contactformulier-sayebusiness/

I wish you all lots of success with The First Million. And of course hope to speak you soon.

    Thank You soooooooooo much Stan.
It helped me a great deal.

Thanks very much, Mike, for the material, and everyone else for your comments and questions in the discussion. Great material!

On the WordPress or web/html questions, I’d also be happy to serve as a resource for FM members. You’re welcome to hit me up via my website, email or Twitter (http://twitter.com/GoodKarmaHost is my “help line” twitter) and I’ll certainly help if I can.

  • http://www.ecstewart.com EC (Lisa) Stewart

I also love WordPress. With just a few tweaks, it makes my business look gorgeous (not like the Jersey turnpike entrances!) and I get many kudos on how it looks like eye-candy.

I also LUV the CMS (content management system) featured in WP. I use the password protected pages for my clients where we can host private conversations on the show & tell on images I upload.

While ecstewart.com is hosted on my site, http://creativegoddess.wordpress.com is hosted free by WP. I’d REALLY like to have CREATIVEGoddess hosted on my site, but I’m having a devil of a time trying to come up with a good integration option for that. The URL has been bought already.

    Thoughts?

Thanks for the session! I’ve already posted a note thru HARO today! (What is Your Creative Outlet?) If you’re not on HARO yet but would like to contribute, write to me at haro@ecstewart.com

    Thanks!
    Lisa

  • http://goodkarmahost.com Dixie Vogel

Lisa- I’m not entirely clear on you question because we’re hitting on two different issues. Are you asking about moving the content from your WordPress-hosted blog to a your current site a ecstewart.com? Or are you asking about the fact the domain name you wanted is not available?

If it’s the first point, that can be addressed. The second one, not much you can do unless the owner of the domain wanted to sell it to you. Otherwise, you need to get brainstorming if you want a new web address. :)

  • http://www.ecstewart.com EC (Lisa) Stewart

    Dixie-

I’ve been posting content on CREATIVEGoddess for a number of years now. My question is: should I consider integrating INTO ecstewart.com to make it homogeneous or is it acceptable to keep it autonomous?

    Thanks!
    Lisa

  • http://goodkarmahost.com Dixie Vogel

Got it. Not a tech question at all. Thanks for the clarification (and sorry I couldn’t help).

  • http://www.sayebusiness.nl Stan Lenssen

    @Lisa
Hi Lisa, I think you should best integrate your blog into your website. This will draw much more traffic to your site (all the traffic that now goes to your blog). Blogging is a great – maybe even the best – way to draw people to your site and to give you an authority status in your market! It can in time boost your sales.

  • http://www.sayebusiness.nl Stan Lenssen

    @everyone
I have a tip for all of you. Hope you can use it.

In the video Mike explained at some point how to integrate a retweet Twitter button in your posts by cutting and pasting a short section of HTML. Great stuff.

There is a very simple way to fully automate this proces. Just integrate the tweetmeme button from http://tweetmeme.com/about/retweet_button
It makes live very simple! The button is well recognized by Twitter users and is automatically placed in your post on the blog, and your RSS-feed (also when sent by e-mail).

Just look at my site if you want to see how it looks and works. http://www.sayebusiness.nl
And of course I will be very greatful to anyone of you that will push those green little buttons there on top of each post. :-)

  • http://www.rachelgaffney.blogspot.com Rachel Gaffney

I have got to be the greenest of this bunch….I am just got the hang of the blog in Feb, (Blooger). Reading about WordPress.org, but the tech part throws me !! Rebuilding my web also (GoDaddy) Should I scrap the Go Daddy?
Advice on consolidating the 2? Please please be advised I am a NEWBIE……can teach you how to bake though !!!
    Rachel

  • http://goodkarmahost.com Dixie Vogel

Rachel – You will be able to import blogger posts into WordPress. Give me a bit and I’ll write up something about how to set up a Wordpres blog for green, non-techies…

  • http://www.rachelgaffney.blogspot.com Rachel Gaffney

    Dixie
    Thank You sooooooo much.

ok people…I have an update for you…more of a FUNNY UPDATE REALLY….I have been doing my homework, installing google analytics, watching Mikes video etc. Well I looked at the search words and phrases that brought people to mysight……and found “Becoming A Nun In Ireland” ! Some poor sould out there wants to become a nun and found me!! I wrote in my blog some time back how I was a Catholic school girl, and asked if I should become a nun, because they were having a shortage…the nun told me “If you think God is calling you, then RUN !” So much for “Get thee to a nunnery”!! Anyone , I thought it was funny….LOL

  • http://www.ecstewart.com EC (Lisa) Stewart

@Rachel – WP makes is stupid easy to import your blogger acct. Simple act of pushing a button. The only thing I found is that my slider.com didn’t come thru -have yet to go back and re-import all of those from a few years ago.

Also, there are a few tricks to getting WP hosted on your own site. I’ve done it and now feel like an expert. If you want to install a 3rd party template to beautify your brand, they should tell you how to do it, but there can be a few hurdles if you’re not a techie.

The Nun update is funny. I get some strange ones, too, but I love the Reduced Shakespeare reference -they’re a bloody scream!

  • http://goodkarmahost.com Dixie Vogel

Rachel – Sorry it took me a bit, but I’ve got a guide up there. I expanded some on the fine info Stan shared already and including some specifics. Hopefully, it will be of use to you or some of the other folks here.

@Dixie – I was off the blog for a few days… just wanted to say YOU ROCK!!!! Thanks so much for all your support.

  • Mike Michalowicz

@Sherry – when you post a link just make sure to put “http://” before it. So the link you gave would be:

    http://biswaroop.wordpress.com/

    …/adding-linkedin-button-to-wordpress

(And you need to put in the full path, which you can just copy and paste from your browser).

Any who… THANK YOU for the tip.

    @Dixie @Stan and @EC

Question for ya. Do you know how to remove the date from a post after a certain period of time. For example if a post is older than 30 days, is there a way to automatically have it stop showing the date. This is something I heard Tim Ferriss does on his blog and appreciate that when readers see an old date they lose interest.

    - Mike

  • Mike Michalowicz

@EVERYONE – This talk gets technical, but cool psychology going on in his web design:

Thanks for de Tim Ferriss video tip. Can recommend it to everyone. Also posted this video on my site. Go for http://sayebusiness.nl/geheimen-van-tim-ferrss-high-traffic-blog/
Do take some time for this! It’s really worth it.

  • http://www.sayebusiness.nl Stan Lenssen

    @admin
There is a WordPress CMS Post Control Plugin. You can control a lot of options with it. That includes post date options. Maybe it can be of any help? Just click http://wp-cms.com/our-wordpress-plugins/post-control-plugin/ to get there.

  • http://georgik.sinusgear.com Juraj Michalek

Thanks for the video and call recording. It’s very inspirating stuff. :)

WordPress is realy cool software. I recommend it for building blogs or company sites. For company site you would probably use feature Pages. You can easilly define structure of your site.

If you start up with WordPress you’ll probably hit the problem of spam in your comments. I definitely recommend Raven’s antispam plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ravens-antispam/. It is very efficient and faster than Akismen.

If you need help regarding WordPress just drop me a message (juraj.michalek@gmail.com). I can help you with complete workflow of registering your domain, chosing themes and deploying full working site. ;)

  • http://greenleaveswebdesigns.com Betty Cortez

I got my WordPress blog up and integrated nicely into my website!
    http://greenleaveswebdesigns.com/index.php?option=com_wordpress&Itemid=61

Word Press rocks! But I still need to add all the social networking links so site visitors can quickly share my blog postings with others. There is also a whole art of SEO for your blog as well like registration your blog with a bunch of sites. Just goolge wordpress seo.

    Good Luck everyone!

  • http://goodkarmahost.com Dixie Vogel

@Mike – Delighted I could be of assistance. And as empirical evidence that flattery will indeed get you everywhere, I wrote up a tutorial on removing the date for old WordPress posts – http://goodkarmahost.com/wordpress/removing-the-date-from-older-posts-in-wordpress/

    Hope it helps. :)

  • http://www.ecstewart.com EC (Lisa) Stewart

Experiencing my first glitch: HARO denied me. She gave no explanation except to have me reread the FAQ. I thought I followed everything to a T and even followed another gent’s outline.

The only difference I see is that his blog is (hosted) on an official URL -mine is not (creativegoddess.wordpress.com).

I’m including a link to the outline sent to HARO if you have time to review.

    http://creativegoddess.wordpress.com/extras/haro-submission/

    Many thanks!
