    Mike-

You are such a frickin’ nutty butty. I like your blocks of time idea although I am not sure if those of us in a metropolitan city/suburb would:

    1. Want to go on an appt at 4 pm in the afternoon aka rush hour?

    2. Cut into our happy hour time on Thur and Fri :)

I think checking email and doing online stuff together is good (set a timer); doing focus tasks together is good (I do not answer phone or email during my focus time); and set aside a day a week for housekeeping, invoicing etc. and appointments (if feasible).

    You are a FREAK!

Fantastic. I bow down to your entrepreneurial wisdom.

I need to take your sound advice–and get my own wacky wig. Somehow I think the combo will beat my scheduling blues. (Sadly, I don’t play guitar.)

I’d love to see a version of this for moms. Eight straight hours? Forget it. Try a disjointed jumble of 20-minute blocks, and the occasional three-hour nap. When the kids hit preschool it gets better, but it’s still kind of a chaotic mess, which means working late at night when almost no one is really productive.

So, blockhead advice for moms…get on that, would ya?

Dude Mike,… HILARIOUS!!! Now I feel like playing Guitar Hero since it’s the only time I can play that song (I can’t play the real thing but my younger brother can).

I follow the steps you’ve outlined except for the appointments in the afternoon to get me out of the office. My appointments are often around lunch time as opposed to in the evening. And although I do use an office, my work can be done virtually as well. I spend most of the time on the phone and managing projects via basecamp. I’ve gotten used to going through emails in the early a.m., calls after that, then appointments, then checking in on projects and then all the fun stuff! What keeps me away from email is awayfind.com. That tool is pretty darn cool!

    Anyway, keep rockin’!

@Ricardo… Thanks brother! Hope things are going well out in Cali. (we have more and more snow here in NJ).

Perhaps you schedule a date with your girlfriend at 5pm or there about 3 times a week. I know if I schedule a date (out of the house, where we HAVE to be on time)… I make it, and the day fits. If I have no hard line time, then I just run late and also upset my wife – we both lose.

Looking forward to seeing you soon again!

@Anjanette – You are PURE AWESOMENESS! Mom’s have it the toughest for sure. Since that is a 24 x 7 job. It really takes two. And the key for me and my wife, is that she schedules “appointments” out of the house… and I watch the kids. The key is getting out from your work space (for a stay at home mom – the work space is the house) and having a commitment to another person for a meeting. It forces it to happen.

@Shonika – you just plain ol’ RULE! How did the seminar with Yanik go? I want to hear updates!!!

@Mike: Cali is great! Though I gotta tell ya, I wouldn’t mind getting away to the snow to get some more snowboarding time in…

My g/f and I make time to meet for dinner. I got my work-load and she has hers but we’re pretty good about coordinating on a place to eat sometime around 6:30-ish. It’s the morning schedule that gets tricky. We either have to leave really early to be the traffic and get to where we need to be on-time, or we leave let, hit traffic and get in late. Meh…I’ve gotten used to the early schedule by now tho (on occasion it sucks, but I’m more productive when things are done earlier on in the day too ya know).
