Startup cash
We started DoodyCalls with very little money but lots of hustle; we didn't have much money at the time. To launch the franchising operations, we initially raised about $100K by selling part of the company to family and friends.

Pet
We have a fluffy orange dog named Rusty. We adopted him from a rescue group and don't know his breed.

Hardest You Ever Laughed
Susan and I were canoeing through a marsh at Pohick Bay in Lorton, VA. I thought there was a snake swimming towards - and determined to slither into -  the canoe! I leaped to the other end of the canoe. A few moments later we realized that what I thought was snake turned out to be a piece of Styrofoam being blown by the wind.
Favorite Book
Jacob - Reflections from the North Country – Sigurd F. Olson
Susan - The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho

Jacob and I jumped in a seaplane and were dropped off in the remote Canadian back country. We spent the next three weeks paddling back through the most incredible wilderness we had ever experienced.

Biggest Mistake
Letting people manage a task or operation after they have proven unable to do so successfully.

Living The Passion
Yes. We are building a business and an industry. Starting DoodyCalls is the most creative and exciting thing we have ever done. We are helping our franchise owners use DoodyCalls as a vehicle to achieve their goals. The potential for DoodyCalls and each of our franchise owners is limitless as the potential for this industry has yet to be reached or defined.

The Lesson
Embrace your vision and do not worry if family and friends do not understand it. People instinctively resist new ideas. Uniqueness creates opposition and wealth.

    OK, OK, OK. This one is tough for me… The picture is great, and the lesson totally resonates with me. Here is my problem: Jacob & Susan are UVA grads. I am a VT grad. If you when to either school or are from Virgina, you will understand that this is oil and water talking.

    OK, I’m throwing away our collegiate differences and giving them a BIG endorsement. Very cool business, and very cool folks.

    I just hope Tech kicks your teams ass into Sunday this weekend.
