55 Seconds To… PR

No pictures, not much text. Just 55 seconds until you're gaining exposure through PR:

1. The Hook – Is your story angle as good as what newscasters say when they go to commercial break? If not, improve it.

2. Quantity Is Good- Big time exposure requires your story to run all over the place. Submit it to TV, radio, newspapers, bloggers and your mom's sewing club.

3. Timing– Got an amazing story? Tiger Woods will still have you beat. Quiet news days are bigger opportunities than busy days.

4. Pick Up The Phone- Everyone submits press releases via email and fax. It's so easy after all. And every email and fax get's trashed. It's so easy after all. Pick up the phone and tell the reporter about you interesting angle.

5. Free Is Worth It – Use free tools like HARO and PRLog to get leads faster and get the word out faster, respectively.

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for a great post.

In addition to HARO, another great free resource for connecting with journalists is PitchRate.com.

Katy – Thank you for the tip. I agree PitchRate.com is a really powerful tool. In fact I encourage people to use both HARO & PitchRate – they very much compliment each other.

Happy New Years, Katy… if you have any other PR sites you recommend in addition to PitchRate I would love to know about them too.
