55 Seconds To… Getting Things Done

No pictures, not much text. Just 55 seconds until you're getting things done:

1. Physically Unplug – See that network or internet cable behind your computer? Unplug it and work "locally" only. No internet and no email equals work getting done.

2. The Phone Too- Yank the battery out of your cell phone, and unplug the wire out of your desk phone.

3. Music On– Crank up some instrumental music. Use it to drown out background noise and conversations that you may normally eavesdrop in on.

4. Paper & Pen! - Always have a paper and pen at the ready to record important thoughts as they cross your mind. Nothing is more distracting then trying to keep the important thoughts in the forefront of your mind.

5. Sex!!! – Study after study shows that a good, active sex life increases productivity. So get "studying".

I have always worked with a pen and paper and people laugh at me at networking events and other things. I’m glad that I am able to get a little back up on my beliefs, at least on your blog.

Dave – I agree with your approach 100% . I had a PDA years back and ditched it. It was more of a distraction for me than anything else. Seems like I get a lot more done, when I have a lot less gadgets.

It’s the simple things isn’t it?
Just doing little “duh” things is what get’s more productivity out of us.

I’d add as well, get out of your environment/home office.
Sometimes the distractions of your normal work environment are…well, distracting.
I like to visit another location (could be a cafe, but even another office or someplace) to keep things fresh. And then return back to my office to reclaim the feeling of comfortability in my surroundings.

    It works pretty nicely. :)
