GUEST POST – Get Over Yourself! – By Chrissy Atley

Chrissy AtleyIt’s amazing to realize that the biggest barrier preventing us from moving forward is often ourselves! If we could just let go of our doubts and have faith in ourselves, we would be a lot better off and on our way to experiencing an amazing life!

What is holding you back? Is it fear of failure or even fear of success (that’s right, when we dig deep that one can surface) or how about fear of what others think? Imagine living a life where you trust yourself and make your own decisions. Where you have the courage to move forward and take big risks.  Can you really afford not to? What price will you pay long term for staying where you are??

Action Challenge

Make a list of all the thoughts holding you back from doing what you love. Now, make a counter list for why each of these thoughts aren’t true. For example, the first list may reveal “I’m scared of what others think,” and the second list counters it with “Deep down I’m the only one who knows what is best for me.”

After you’ve made both lists, read the second one over and over until this sticks. When you’re ready, and this could be the same day, a week later or even a month afterwards, burn that first list. That’s right, actually set fire to it - in a safe, supervised place of course! We don’t want that gunk hanging around anywhere.  It’s pretty liberating to see your limiting beliefs go up in flames too!! So Get Over Yourself - Literally!

Said like a true TPE! Get over yourself. It is the same sentiment I share with all the young people I work with. We actually have this slogan that we say and it is:

A true Renegade CEO challenges not the limits of society but the limits of oneself.

And the all encompassing thought is that when you get stuck on something or completely twisted around it is because you cannot see the picture because you are in the frame! So you need to step outside of yourself and reflect, not on things around you but on things within you. Ask many people if they take the time to sit 10-15 min a day by themselves and many will say no and if they have ever tried to do it they become afraid. Their belief is that if they are ‘not doing something’ all the time then they cannot be productive or successful. When in fact it is actually when you sit down and think about your past and your present that it makes things a lot easier in your future.

    Thanks for sharing.

Great pearl in a short couple of paragraphs…that is always the best. Definitely soooo true! Our minds are kind of like a ship as sea….the ship needs someone at the helm or Lord only knows where it would end up. It’s a shame so often we allow our minds to not have anyone at the “helm”. A ship without a captain…kinda frightening huh? What about a mind without a captain? Do you steer your thoughts or do you just drift at sea?

Intriguing post. I know this is the truth for me. Insecurity and self-doubt sometimes keep me from “going big”–putting everything out there on a project. Thanks for the reminder!
