    My name is Elgin Subwaysurfer Bolling. I am a NYC based Creative Caricature Marketing Consultant. Your advice about freebies DEFINITELY works. I have used this method throughout my career as an illustrator, and especially when I’m introducing something new. It’s important to add that you do your very best on what you’re offering as if you ARE getting paid for it, and not just to “throw out anything”. Looking at this another way, “FREE” isn’t really “FREE” as you get to build your reputation in return, test market your goods and services, and gain a potential paying client who may solicit you for another paying job, or refer you to others. This has certainly worked for me.

      Very true… in this case, free is an investment. It is like investing marketing dollars… but in this case is just your time.
