I am kinda a gadget guy and kinda not. I have the latest greatest mini-notebook, but my cell phone is from like 1963. The reason is that gadgets can be time drainers more then productivity gainers. With that in mind, I reached out to the TPE community and asked them what gadgets increased productivity and how did they use them. Yes, the iPhone is referenced over and over, but the uses are somewhat different. Perhaps in this list you will find a few things you never thought about before, or find a new way to use what you already have.

1. Plain But Effective

2. One That Works!
Devices That Increase Productivity: As entrepreneurs we need something that works, not something that distracts us from what we need to be doing-moving our business forward. Determine how a particular gadget moves your business forward. This may be by increasing your productivity, shortening response times, improving customer service, branding, or cutting cost. Be critical, ask yourself 'Is this a need to have, or a nice to have?'. Toys are for personal time, entrepreneurs need tools that work for us and make our jobs easier. 3. Blackberry Necessities
Devices That Increase Productivity: Today as I sat in my office OUTSIDE my home, yeah I still have a job~~Income Stream #6!! I took a look at my handy dandy Blackberry and lo and be-hold there ya go a notification I had ANOTHER sale. I'm able to connect with anyone and everyone because I hold my own personal computer in my hand! I can BE everywhere and nowhere all at the same time. I decided to stand up and do what the masses will not. I will not be denied! This gadget is my vehicle around the world today. That's productivity! Thanks To: JoAnn Donahue of Donahue Development |

4. What A Dinosaur!
Devices That Increase Productivity: I really wanted to list my devise as my sewing machine but knew that's not really what you meant by "electronic gadget". That being said, I'll go with my Mac Pro. It allows me to write articles, post them, design, create, print materials, contact clients (even strangers), get business tips, research, listen to music, etc. I don't need to be talking on a cell while shopping, or texting while driving or responding on a blackberry during services. Everything I need in one place. Thanks To: Tina Wick of Greenpurse |

5. A Love/hate Relationship
Devices That Increase Productivity: I have a love/hate relationship with my cell phone.I am both troubled and appreciative of the fact that I'm reachable any time. The phone helps me keep tabs on my three sons, but the real benefit is its versatility. As deadlines loom, potential advertisers can reach me at the 11th hour to reserve ad space, bringing in much needed revenue. And when we opened a second office in December, rather than pay for a new phone line, I simply have calls to our flagship office forwarded to my cell. Bingo! Thanks To: Erica Shames of Susquehanna Life Magazines |

6. It's Not The Tool That Matter
Devices That Increase Productivity: I often have clients that want to know the "magic tool" that will help them be more productive. It is not the tool, but your mindset that will make a difference. When you are selecting a tool to help you improve your output, start by listing the activities that are not getting done today. Then, compare those activities to the features on each tool you are considering. Then, be honest with yourself. If you spend the money will you actually take the time to learn it & use it? Thanks To: Stephanie Calahan of Calahan Solutions, Inc. |

7. Blackberry, Oh Blackberry...
Devices That Increase Productivity: As much as I don't want to admit this I think my blackberry is the one thing that keeps me in the game with business. I can be away from the desk, office, computer and still receive important emails. When you run an online business everything is through emails and online communication. And those days when the office internet decides not to work at least I can still communicate using my blackberry. And the fact that I can be anywhere and still get a few things done is awesome. Thanks To: Ashley Bodi of BusinessBeware.biz |

8. Let's Keep It Simple
Devices That Increase Productivity: Cell phones are by far the best productivity tool known to man. We can have all the computers and mini's that we desire but nothing beats a great smart-phone! Thanks To: Zanade Mann of Online & Off Marketing and PR |

9. Cell Magic
Devices That Increase Productivity: I love my cell phone! I finally got a cell that has access to my business email, and unlimited texting. This access to email comes in extra handy while traveling since I don't have to hook up my laptop to check email anymore. LOVE THIS! I also think texting is amazing as you can pretty much do it anywhere! Thanks To: Jocelyn Wiebe of AmeriPlan |

10. The Blackberry When Used Right
Devices That Increase Productivity: We all like to use our Blackberry to check Facebook updates or attempt to beat a high score in a game of Word Mole. But there are many times when the Blackberry becomes a useful device when operating a business. Say I am on the road and running five minutes late to a client. With three simple clicks, I am able to access my outlook, dig up the customer's contact information, and make the call. This little device has helped me establish better communication with clients. Thanks To: Alexis Avila of Prepped & Polished |

11. Technology Can Be Distracting
Devices That Increase Productivity: I think the PDA cell phones are a catch-22. They are GREAT most of the time, in fact, I run about every aspect of my business from mine (phone, e-mail, fax, internet, billing, ect), but lets face it, having your phone ding every single time that you receive an e-mail is very inefficient and unproductive - you then spend your days staring at your phone, rather than focusing on what you should be doing, so to me, the PDA cell phone is the most productive device if your are a mobile professional. Thanks To: Jason McAninch of J-TEK |
12. First Line To Your Customers
Devices That Increase Productivity: Your cell phone is an important communication tool with your customers. We are all on the go in our business. You should be able to make calls, receive calls, and most important, it is the first impression your customer has with you. Your cell phone can drive business if worked properly. Thanks To: Craig Collins of Hiddensportsrecruit |

13. Blackberry Is A Life Saver....
Devices That Increase Productivity: I use my BlackBerry Storm as my mobile office. I have my 800 phone number ring to my office phone and Blackberry at the same so I never miss a customer call. Also, the ability to manage my business and personal email from the Blackberry allows me to work from anywhere. Finally, the apps such as twitter and facebook allow me to stay in touch with what is happening with the rest of the world. Don't leave home without it!!! Thanks To: David Lowe of ControlTemp Thermostats |

14. Kill 2 Birds With One Stone
Devices That Increase Productivity: My best piece of time-saving equipment is definately my blue-tooth headset. Why? Because it works with my cell phone and my office phone and it knows which one is ringing. I wear my bluetooth most of the day. When I leave the office and take my cell phone, it now knows that I am away from the office and works perfectly with my cell phone. As I arrive at my office, I hear a beep and it knows that my office phone is within distance. Whichever one rings, I can pick either up anywhere in my office. Thanks To: Neil Palache of The Wealth Creator Company 4 Women |

17. Small, Mighty, And...cute!
Devices That Increase Productivity: The one 'gadget' that has truly helped my productivity has been my Mini Notebook, with internet access. It's small enough for me to take almost anywhere, and since most of what I do is online, I can work from almost anywhere as well. Being able to access/work from anywhere, at any time, has turned out to be a huge benefit. Come rain or snow, you can get the work done! Plus, it always helps when the gagdet is cute:) Thanks To: Jenn Lederer of AFST Management |

18. The Iphone Saves!
Devices That Increase Productivity: My iPhone has increased my productivity, saving me both time and money. Here’s an example. On the morning I was to be shot for the cover of Celebrity Parent’s Magazine, I was on my way to the salon. However, I got a text saying that the photographer had a personal emergency and had to postpone the shoot. This saved me unnecessary time and money, as I was able to cancel my appointment. Had I not received that text, yes, I would have had beautiful hair, but nowhere to go! I heart my iPhone! Thanks To: Sally Shields of The Daughter-in-Law Rules |

19. An Extension Of My Office
Devices That Increase Productivity: I couldn't live without my PDA. When I'm out of my office it allows me to keep tabs on important emails, my Twitter account, my Facebook account and LinkedIn. It's like a mini office in the palm of my hand; an extension of my home office in the field. As a solopreneur, I absolutely couldn't live without it! Thanks To: Suzanne Shaffer of Parents Countdown to College Coach |

20. Need My Cell Phone Pda
Devices That Increase Productivity: With two devices in one, the cell phone PDA allows calls, text messages, and viewing your calendar and contacts all in the palm of your hand. A reminder alarm tells you when it is time to go and the address is in the appt. listing. The task list tells you what you can get done before and after the appointment, and the contact list is available to call others, before, during, or after the appointment. Thanks To: Eileen Roth of Everything in its Place |

21. Reach Out And Touch...
Devices That Increase Productivity: Though many people have the latest devices to keep up with business(or the Jones')the one tool that I rely on consistently is the cellular. With my celly, I can keep in touch with clients, update Twitter, search Google, schedule appointments, kgb information, etc. It is small and portable, takes video and pictures, and plays music. But, the best use is for maintaining clear and constant contact with clients and the office. So, the other things are great, but the mobile does what is says! Thanks To: Doula Angelita of Resurgam BirthingWell8899 |

22. Get Balanced
Devices That Increase Productivity: My very favorite tool is my iphone. My own personal assistant that keeps me in check at all times. Being a creative I need to be kept on a short leash and my iphone does just that. My most useful App to date is called "Budget". I can keep a hold of all my daily expenses and know with clarity where all that wonderful cash is being invested. In me of course. Invest in yourself, Invest in your wealth. And above all have FUN doing it! Thanks To: Ann Bennett of Creative Genius Loves Company |

23. Log Rolling To Freedom
Devices That Increase Productivity: The best tool I have found to increase my productivity isn't hardware. It uses it but rides along for the fun of it. I have 5 locations of a business that are 2 states away. Due to the wonderful power of Logmein.com I can quickly and easily provide assistance to the wonderful people who work for me. It has cut my time involved dramatically and allowed me to focus on growing the business rather than trying to keep it from falling apart. Roll with the flow and log in to freedom. Thanks To: Scott Lovingood of The Wealth Squad Inc |
24. Connected 24-7 On My Iphone
Devices That Increase Productivity: Love, Love, Love my I-Phone. I'm connected 24-7 to SMS, Mobile Web, Email, Facebook and Twitter. It allows me to be highly productive at all times. Tweet clients, Facebook pictures, Email potential clients and get SMS coupons so I save $$$. Now my new Mac lap top is quickly coming up the ranks as well. Thanks To: Casey McConnell of Qittle Mobile Marketing Solutions |

25. Digital Voice Recorders Rule!
Devices That Increase Productivity: My favorite gadget for increasing productivity is a digital voice recorder. I can instantly keep track of important information like dates, times, numbers, or spur-of-the-moment thoughts I want to be sure to remember. As a writer, I use my recorder it to instantaneously document interesting observations. With this device, I know the thought is safely stored, therefore allowing me to move on to my next creative thought - instead of worrying about whether I'll remember that great idea later on. Devices That Increase Productivity: Definitely cannot live without my iPhone. I am a converted APPLE geek. Thanks To: Nichole Wright of Bon Vivant Events & Fundraising LLC |

27. Selling With Cellphone!
Devices That Increase Productivity: My cell phone allows me to communicate udates to my database through texting. I have actually gotten sales for my book by simply asking people that are programmed in my phone to purchase it. And they texted back for a link! Sale made with a simple digital question. And since they're in my phone, I have their permission to promote. I've found texting to be great for promoting and marketing to my warmest market. Thanks To: Asadah Kirkland of Beating Black Kids - The Book |

28. Cell Phone Heaven
Devices That Increase Productivity: I manage to get a lot of work done by using my cell phone. I use it to call my clients and past clients on a regular basis. Plus, I use it to retrieve my email when on the road, if I do not have the space or connection to use my laptop. I probably would be lost without my cell phone, or at least my productivity would be lowered. Thanks To: Harry Husted of Creating Words |

29. Stay Safe!
Devices That Increase Productivity: Since I'm always out meeting with prospects and clients, my Blackberry really is a valuable tool. I'm able to check my emails while I wait for my lunch date, and respond to those that need immediate attention. And when it's not working as it should, I'm always amazed at how dependent I am on it's magical powers, and how much I miss them. Thanks To: Bonnie Buol Ruszczyk of BBR Marketing |

30. Making Use Of Wasted Time
Devices That Increase Productivity: With the iPhone, I can make good use of what would otherwise be wasted time. I was stuck in line at the post office today for 45 minutes. That could have made my day less productive, but I used my iPhone to check e-mail, and update my blog and Facebook. I got a lot of things done that I would have had to do once I got to my office. Thanks To: Candy Keane of Three Muses Inspired Clothing |

31. Iphone
Devices That Increase Productivity: Until the iPad comes out -- which qualifies as my lifelong dream device -- I'll go with my iPhone as the best time saving device. First, it's a phone, GPS, web browser, minicomputer all in one unit. Second, I have my contacts, calendar, calculator, to dos, even documents right at hand. Third, it's easy to use and navigate. Fourth, it's just cool and fun. And my kids can play games when we are waiting in line somewhere! Thanks To: Alison Moore Smith of Start Blogging in 1 Week |

34. If It's Broke -don't Fix It
Devices That Increase Productivity: About 18 months ago now, my cell phone became my biggest productivity tool! That is when the ability for me to receive email via my phone all of a sudden died! My first reaction was to contact my provider to get it fixed. And then I noticed how much more purposeful and productive I was with the lack of e-interuptions! I have never gotten it fixed and I save e-mail time for the beginning and the end of each work day versus being interupted by it throughout! Thanks To: Ann Farrell of Quanatum Endeavors, Inc |

Saving Time + Finding Exact Content = Productivity for Me. Thanks To: Steve Sponseller of Innovation Strategies, Inc. |

Devices That Increase Productivity: Productivity can get ruined quickly when you don't have your schedule readily available. My I-Pod is my time travelers dream. I sync it to my calendar and I never have a problem setting up my next call or appointment with a client. I never miss an appointment because I can check it the night before and get my next day in order. To stay on time, my cell phone has a clock. Set it, and my reminder is "Back in Black", by ACDC. I just love electronics. Thanks To: Marya Grier of Performance Connect |

39. Don't Take My Laptop Away
Devices That Increase Productivity: I try almost every new gadget at some point. It's always fun to use something new. After awhile, I keep track of what I get done and what time I waste. At that time, I drop the new gadget. There has only been one exception: My Dell laptop. It's the best way for me to organize my work, quickly find information I need, and gain the help I need from others. With one laptop, I can accomplish much more than I did in the 1980s when I had hundreds of professionals working for me. Thanks To: Donald Mitchell of The 400 Year Project |

40. Me And My Mini-notebook
Devices That Increase Productivity: It's my notebook computer with wireless connection! I know that many people love PDAs and fancy phones to keep them productive. Yet without a keyboard to let my fingers fly at 90 words a minute (a skill I msatered in high school) -- I just can't be productive. When I suddenly have family to help out of town, I take it with me. If I am busy working with customers all day, I can do catch up work in the evening curled up on the couch without feeling like I'm in the office. 44. No Nonsense Blackberry
Devices That Increase Productivity: I have an iPod Touch and can see how an iPhone can easily waste away hours with its fun interface and applications. While the iPhone has utilities, the BlackBerry handles the business basics better especially email and data entry. It also syncs with many apps that let you enter data from any PC or laptop including tasks, calendar, contacts and memos. iPhone has some, but it takes more work than the BB. Thanks To: Meryl K Evans of meryl.net |

Devices That Increase Productivity: My brand new alarm clock! It shakes my pillow! When the beep and ring alarms just become a part of my dreams, this one still wakes me up and gets me going! You have to be awake to be productive, so I put this as my #1 gadget! 50. Don't Open It And Delete
Devices That Increase Productivity: One of my favorite and most efficient tools is my Blackberry. And the first rule of thumb is "Don't Answer it." I get all my calls at the end of the day. I can leave voicemails for people at night and still be responsive. Next: Deleting. Go through all your 'easy' emails. Not the ones that take a lot of writing, but the ones that provide you information and you can then delete, or, merit a quick response. Use your Blackberry, but Don't Answer and Delete like crazy! Thanks To: Pamela Hawley of UniversalGiving |

51. The "i" Has It!
Devices That Increase Productivity: Hands down the iPhone is the most useful piece of technology for me. Phone, email, text, photos. Traveling around the country as I do this one piece of technology is the most useful and in my opinion graceful to use, enabling me to maintain business and personal relationships without missing a beat. I give it a big "thumbs" up especially since I don't need to use my thumbs to make it work! Thanks To: Barbara Russo of Barbara Russo STRATEGICS |

52. Benefits Of Technology
Devices That Increase Productivity: Netbooks, or mini notebooks, are devices that provide entrepreneurs an opportunity to be more productive. Netbooks, equipped internet access, allow an entrepreneur to stay abreast of all internet related activities, even while on-the-go. Yes, smart-phones like Blackberry can allow internet browsing; however, the screen size and lack of multi-browser use provide limitations. With the abundance of internet-based tools, entrepreneurs can continue business as usual regardless of where they are. Thanks To: Mark Hall of Input Ladder |

54. Mobilizing To Suceed
Devices That Increase Productivity: My cell phone, after my internet connection, is the most important life line to my business. With out it orders simply will not come through. In any business, one needs to be as flexible as possible. While we have an online business, we are experiencing an explosion of orders strictly through our cell phone listed on our site. With out it we would lose hundreds to thousands of dollars in sales. So it's definitely not a distraction; it's an asset to say the least. Thanks To: Edwin Soler of Libreria Berea |

55. Hands Free Satisfaction!
Devices That Increase Productivity: Just realized not too long ago that my cell phone had a speakephone feature. I know, duh. Thanks To: James Reno of Raw Food Repair |

56. It's All About The Rhythm.
Devices That Increase Productivity: It's not that I don't appreciate current technologies, but I still have an old pink flip phone. It's rarely on since I'm tethered to my desk or don't want to be found. I have a Blue Ant I'm still learning. I have my iPod Shuffle. My favorite device is my new wireless Plantronics headset w/mic. I LOVE IT! I can walk around the house Skyping, rocking out to the tunes as I write code, design and create. It also drowns out the children when they "go off." Devices That Increase Productivity: My Blackberry increases my productivity more than any other gadget I own. Being able to check, send, and receive my emails from anywhere, as well as have my entire database of contacts at the touch of my finger, is unbeatable. By leveraging this technology, I am able to quickly respond to the issues that are crucial in growing and developing my company. Just don't end up being the entrepreneur whose spouse calls your Blackberry your mistress. Turn it off when you need to, and enjoy life. Thanks To: Matt Shoup of Shoup Consulting |

59. Iphone Efficiency
Devices That Increase Productivity: In the midst of work overwhelm I found both my husband and I in the waiting room of the dental office having unwittingly lined up both appointments one after the other. Two work hours down the drain - or were they? I pulled out my iPhone to create two new webinars. How? The notepad feature enabled me to type in keywords for each slide. It was a true miracle - 2 webinars were completely written in 20 minutes! By the time I was ushered into the dental chair, I was actually relaxed. Thanks To: Elinor Stutz of Smooth Sale, LLC |
60. Gadget Within A Gadget- Gmail
Devices That Increase Productivity: I use Google business apps to host my domains email, and I love it because I am used to Gmail for my personal email. But something that helps keep me productive is the Task pane you can click on and create tasks. Most people use notebooks but no matter where I go, if there is a computer I can access my tasks to include on my phone. It has saved me many times and it is so simple. It isn't a tech device technically, but it is just as good. Thanks To: Mike Schreurs of Roke Media |

62. Strike While Iron Is Hot
Devices That Increase Productivity: Sales research indicates leads get cold in 15 minutes. You must strike while the iron is hot. Hence I have a web enabled phone is critical. Devices That Increase Productivity: A smartphone enables me to respond quickly to customers and staff. I have all my contacts, email and internet access at my finger tips as well as the ability to communicate via phone. I can even blog or tweet. While this means that my business life blends into my personal life, it also means the reverse, giving me the flexibility to be wherever and still be on top of my business.
