    Great point, Mike.

It only takes a little bit to differentiate ourselves. Your video editor does a great job keeping up with you. Who is he? or she?

Mike – you make me laugh!!! Love your videos. The messages are always great, but of course, it’s your charming, witty, and too fun personality that sets you apart! Modeling your lesson as the camera rolled… Genius :) Here’s a sneak peek at what I’m doing to differentiate my biz from the crowd -

Oh man the last scene is hilarious!! I really pity Jeremy though, having to edit your crazy stuff LOL.

That aside, when I’m thinking about a biz, I usually think about being remarkable. In this case you just have to keep going at a single distinct point and build your entire biz around it. All packages/promotional materials have to convey that message too, such as the soda can packaging or advertisements. It’s really a classic micro niche strategy – just be different and remarkable about that 5%.

P.S. It’s comforting to realize that I don’t have to be 100% different from all the competitors, because that makes my head explode!

    • http://www.ToiletPaperEntrepreneur.com Mike Michalowicz

@Ken – Thanks my brother. and YUP it is the 5% thing, not the 95%, that matters.

  • Marvin

    Nice one Mike!
    Happy Holidays

    • http://www.ToiletPaperEntrepreneur.com Mike Michalowicz

@Gregg – Heck yes, you would think it would be ginger. Not even listed… just natural flavors.

Finding that special difference is one thing, but for most it becomes a task to ‘create’ that enhanced difference. I figure the new task becomes to now market that difference. The difference must impact my customers experience with me. In a way that jogs that customer to want to re-experience it, even to the extent they would select me from a group of options. I call that a “Tall-Small” A Tall order with a small outlay. Finding the way to fit it within the idea structure becomes my additional task.
My comment within a process-reverse that! GregT

Fantastic analogy! As it’s been said, “There’s no more unique ideas”. And because of that, we need to find new and exciting and unique WAYS of doing things which will bring people in. Love the vid! Thanks! =)

Great point Mike. It’s that little brand ingredient that you give yourself that can make all the difference as well. Toilet Paper? Uh-huh!

Speaking of ingredients, see if you remember any of these great foods we had to eat when we were kids… http://www.curtistucker.com/

    You might get a chuckle.

    All the best.

You sure you didn’t add something to that drink or are you just nuts…

    1) High Fructose corn syrup ruins your sugar uptake and storage mechanisms..obesity, diabetes and pancreatic cancer (used to be rare) on the rise

    2) Quite correct…the flavours are as natural as a blue sun

    3) Where in nature does the avg animal eat sodium benz.?

    4) SODAS DEPLETE YOUR BODY OF PHOSPHOROUS

    Hi Mike,

Love your sense of humor. I totally agree that we need to change the flavor of our business. It’s funny how doing something as simple as that can make all the difference. I like to stand out from the crowd with my pillow designs. Most people imagine that they are the normal square pillows, but mine are a variety of differents types. And who would think that my best seller is a pea pod pillow? Yesterday a client asked if I am going to add french fries to my food pillows..lol I said sure! So I think I will add some flavor to my creations by adding fruit pillows! lol
Thanks for another great tip Mike. And for making me smile. :-)

  • http://www.youravon.com/scaruso Sheila A Caruso

Great video. I loved that you said that we are all the same, but it takes that one thing that makes us difference. Now I just have to figure out what that one difference is.

    • http://www.ToiletPaperEntrepreneur.com Mike Michalowicz

@Sheila – I think the answer may be easier then you think. The starting point, I believe, is the unabashed, 100%, real you. Who would you be and what would you say, if no one else’s opinion mattered. Who ever the real you is… your own “natural flavor”…. is what your business should represent.
