    Mike,
Hilarious, and yet so powerpacked! I totally agree and attend tradeshows occasionally depending on the type… yes building those connections and the follow up, most important part! That reminds me of the 3 business cards right here I have yet to connect to… here I go!

You are freakin nuts.  Here’s a hot trade show tip from my sister in law – she stopped exhibiting at the major Vegas industry trade show years ago, saving time, money and hassle.  Now she rents a nice hotel suite DURING THE SHOW and sets up meetings/hospitality in her nice little suite and does all kinds of business while her peeps are in Las Vegas for the show.  Genius.

My first experience of the Toilet Paper entrepreneur… frantic and a little crazy (reminded me of Ryan Stiles a bit) but very informative! We’ve included the video in our roundup of the best tradeshow blog posts for October:http://www.mktpoint.com/index.php/2011/11/03/top-of-the-tradeshow-pops/

Thanks Jenni – What doozy of a first TPE experience. I can assure you…. it get’s worse.

Mike — Good advice, particularly for anyone new to tradeshow marketing. Allow me to piggy-back on your video with a recent posting “When Trade Shows Don’t Make Sense.” A few words of wisdom from someone in the trade show biz.

    You
are a mad man! I love the hair!

    Great
advice on trade shows. Now that you mention it, I can confirm that you are
absolutely right.  I get a lot more done by walking the show than by
working the show and it is much cheaper; usually free.

    Let
me give you a corollary to the above. If you are going to do a booth at a trade
show, don’t do it in your own industry. I sold my last company to my strategic
investor. They had a large marketing group and marketing people just love trade
shows. We were in the fuel cell business so they always went to fuel cell trade
shows. What’s up wid dat! Are you really going to sell fuel cells to your
competition? How many of your potential customers go to fuel cell trade shows?

    Anyway,
I finally convinced them to let me mount an effort at the “Florida
Governor’s Hurricane Conference.” Note that this was just after Katrina
and the year when we got into the Greek alphabet to name hurricanes.  Wow!
We made all sorts of great connections and lined up a boat load of potential
customers for back up power supplies. We were the ONLY fuel cell company there.
    Go figure.
