Some of the advice here is great, but some isn’t very good. Obviously if they got success it was luck. For example, you can’t just build a website for $500 and call it a day. You have have to market that site and that takes blood, sweat and tears… and more money. And a $500 site will be hard pressed to make you any money unless you have a fabulous product or service that will turn the world on it’s end.

I agree with your overall points, and the website. But, I want to add that you can compensate some web designers, for example, with $500 in cash, and a few thousands in performance or profit share or even barter. So, I think when cash is tight, you can find ways to supplement it and get great results.

Actually, you can build a website for $500. You see it’s all who you know and what you can do to partcipate in it’s creation. Like Mike said, there’s always ways to swing a deal. With $500 you must think out of the box. We did it!

Olympia LePoint’s comment is true. People can build great websites with little cash. The trick is to insert great website pictures, and let the pictures do 80% of the talking. The website doesn’t have to be fancy, but clean and to the point. Too many words on websites are not effective in gaining new clients. So, you can totally build a website with just $500…but it does take time, thought and talent.

Send out a press release. If you can get booked on an interview, or written about in a newspaper, then you will essentially have a free commercial. Of course, you might have to travel to do an interview…. Which is how you can spend the $500.00.
