Favorite quote
“If you want what you’ve never had, you have to do what you’ve never done.’

When is the hardest you ever laughed
I laugh ALL the time!  When I go to RI and stay with my sister ( she is my best friend) and her husband I think we laugh the hardest.. All three of us are just always in sync and its hilarious. Wish I could come up with one instance, its just so often.

Favorite brand of toilet paper
Cottonelle… they win me over with the picture of the puppy.. every time.

Toilet paper roll… under or over?
Over

1 ply, 2 ply, 3 ply, or never enough ply?
2 ply, when money’s tight 1ply :)

Fly, Drive, Bike or Walk
Ugh, hate flying. Just got rid of my car, so I bike and walk (and sometimes Segway!)

Favorite drink
Sparkling water

A good night out costs
Depending on who the company is. With my boyfriend it could be $5 for a taco and walking around Brooklyn.

Biggest complaint
New Yorkers can be so rude.

What time do you wake up
6- 6:30am

What time do you go to bed
Early bird, between 930/ 1030. I read in bed

Weirdest thing you have ever done
When I was in junior high, I thought I had this amazing talent and could make this noise with my hand that I thought was so unique. So I found out there was a local casting for some reality show, like Americas funniest/ weirdest things (I don’t remember the name). I went by myself, waited in line and stood in front of a camera for about 1 minute making this weird noise. I thought it was great. They told me to go away and that was that. Deflation at its best.  It’s kind of embarrassing now, but at the time I thought it was completely normal!

I haven’t done anything like that since… I have my quirks though :)

Most extreme thing you ever did
Moved to New York City from Rhode Island to start a company. no joke, it was extreme.

Biggest entrepreneurial accomplishment
Being in business for 3 years, in New York City, in fashion!! Having an office in Lower East Side and functioning on a daily basis at Kick PR.

Biggest entrepreneurial mistake
Not always facing the facts of business. Instead of facing the financial strategy head on, I tend to avoid. It scares me. I should say “scared” me.

Your passion
Every day I wake up even when I have anxiety about the day ahead. I look around and realize that I love what I do.  I love fashion and I am good with people. I love to be creative and work with others to get them excited about their product. It doesn’t always go the way I want (editors don’t always respond) but it’s a dream doing this for a living.

Lesson
Reach out for help. I tried to do everything on my own; big mistake. There is a reason I am not a financial advisor; money management isn’t by strong point but that’s ok, I ask for help.  The more I outsource the things I don’t like to do, the better I feel and more efficient I am in doing what I am good at. And also, grow from your mistakes; embrace them and learn from them. I used to joke that I learned what not to do every day. But it’s moved me along.

    Kate,

You are right on about the ‘Lesson’ Girl.

    “Reach out for help.”

Too many times we put in all the effort in the world and we find ourselves taking a bath in our work. But ironically we ain’t getting any cleaner, just rubbing all the dirt back on.

It is not until we learn to operate with the end in mind that we can really fly and show off our stuff. Highly recommend that people look for help in the beginning, even if it is a break even proposition. Your company will grow that much faster in the long run.

And if you can make it in NYC you can make it anywhere. Bravo!

cheers and continued good fortune to you.
