Is Your Sex Life Affecting The Success of Your Business? by Marie Forleo

This may not be the most PC of topics, but I say, screw PC.  Here’s the deal.  As entrepreneurs (especially as women entrepreneurs), we put a lot of time and energy into growing our business.  We get up early, work like crazy, cook, clean, take care of the kids and by the end of the day, nooky often gets shoved to the back burner.

Then what happens?  We’re cranky and wound up. Our significant others get upset (and rightfully so) due to the lack of attention and begin to resent all the time and energy we give to our business.

Is there any easy fix for all of us?  YES!  We all need to have more sex. (Not all together, mind you.  But if you’re into that kind of thing, God bless.)

A healthy sex life is essential to being a vibrant, passionate, and fully self-expressed human being and therefore, essential to being a truly successful entrepreneur. After all, we start our businesses not only to earn a great living, but to make a difference in the world.  And that can only happen when we are operating at our full potential.  A healthy sex life feeds us on an emotional, physical and psychological level and simply leaves us more vibrant and engaged in our businesses and lives.

Here are 9 great reasons why more sex will boost your business:

1.  More effective in your business - When you’re sexually active, you feel more vibrant and engaged in your life and this naturally impacts how you operate in your business.

2.  More support at home - Your partner will be way more supportive of your wild and crazy entrepreneurial endeavors if he/she feels fully connected and intimate with you on a regular basis.

3.  Less stress – Regular sex reduces stress and leaves you balanced and clear-headed.  Hello?!  As an entrepreneur, your ability to be clear under-pressure is essential to success.

4.  More C.C. &P. – Regular sex fuels creativity, confidence and passion: three “must-haves” for any entrepreneur to rock their business.

5.  It’s damn fun! – C’mon people.  If we’re not having fun in our business or life, what’s the point?

6.  Relieves pain -  During sex, the natural hormone oxytocin is released, endorphins increase, and pain declines.  Translation? Next time you have a headache, grab your partner rather than an aspirin.

7. Makes you skinny and healthy - It’s tough to get to the gym regularly when you’re building your empire. A regular romp burns calories (85 calories or more for every 30 minute session) and increases cardiovascular health.

8.  Great skin -  Ladies and gents, regular sex is the natural and organic way to gorgeous, glowing, youthful skin.

9.  Increase in self-confidence – Regular sex increases self-confidence and helps us take bigger risks in our business.

Still not convinced?  There’s only one way to find out:  amp things up in the bedroom (or whatever location suits your fancy) and see the results for yourself.

  5. J. Says:

I agree with most of what Marie wrote, but if having good, frequent sex was the key to business success, the spouse and I would be billionaires — and let’s just say neither of us will make the Inc. 500 any time soon. ; )

  6. Marie Says:

Hey J! I don’t think there’s ONE key to anything (sex is certainly not the whole enchilada) but a happy home life and enlivening sexual life certainly does help your ability to be effective.

Smart marketing (especially direct response marketing), great business relationships and excellent pricing structures are also huge keys too!

  7. MICHARN Says:

Great article. I feel what was mendtioned in the article is so true so that is why I am in search of a partner to be monogamous with and he the same so I can have the regular sex that I love. Thanks

  8. Janet Says:

What about the single men and women? Does that mean they can’t have a successful business or life? Having a truly fulfilled life, and that is on whatever level you feel good about, is what makes people successful.

    Janet

  9. Julie Says:

Marie, seriously… I couldn’t agree more! Sometimes, as women we just have to drop the day to day hustle and bustle and really reconnect with our partners and ourselves! Pleasure inspires creativity… and gives us a much needed boost when “inspiration” is lagging.

Great topic… Great tips…. Now let’s get it ON! :D

Well, I think this brings the concept of multitasking, leveraging, bringing passion to your biz and finding your niche to a WHOLE new level. Thank you Marie I think I will get RIGHT ON it ;)

  11. Adryenn Ashley Says:

This is what I’ve been saying for years! It’s all about balance and healthy nookie!

  12. Melani Ward Says:

LOVE it! Looking forward to testing the theory:)

  13. Arlo Says:

In “having sex” as in all other “activities,” it is quality, not quantity, that enhances enjoyment and “joyfullness,” from whatever source, is always to be desired!

  16. Louise Says:

I swear you nailed it. This is THE final argument for why it is high time I hang up my SingleLife (which is nookie-free – no love, no nookie) and settle down to some solid, regular, constant and good lovin!! My success will skyrocket!! Any 40-something single guys you wanna fix me up with?? :)

  17. Lorraine Faehndrich Says:

I love this Marie. And, although I don’t have a partner at the moment, I think making a great social and sex life a priority – as well as pleasure of any kind is – important to a thriving business and a happy healthy life! I’m looking forward to your call.
    Lorraine

  18. Henry Says:

a work & no play makes Henry a dull boy!

  19. marlene Says:

Having more sex sounds great. The problem is finding someone worthwhile to have sex with. If you are over 40, single, busy with your career, not into random casual hookups, and refuse to get involved with jerks sex can be a challenge not to say almost nonexistent.

Shame on you Marie. It is not as easy and perfect as you try to make it seem

  20. Sharon B Says:

    Marie,

What a great article, I loved all the reasons especially, great skin, more effective in business and just plain Fun!
    Whoo Hoo, I in!

  21. Joan Says:

what fun…appreciating your whimsy…agree, balance is key…happy sex makes for happy beings…doings become easier when we’re fulfilled and nourished…fully lit, connected…plus the glow is dang irresistable…radiates & uplevels our hearts desire…good reminder…more sooner than later…ck…thank YOU…happy day

  22. Cheryl Says:

Women professionals and businesswomen still doing all the cooking and housekeeping! What is up with that? That’s so stone-age, Marie (unless of course your business IS cooking or housekeeping.) I would say first accomplish 1-9 above by getting a good housekeeping service. Then, have more time and energy to be a little more creative, too, in the sac. Don’t we also want to be more “creative” in our businesses as well? By the way….you can still get your hair messed up first thing in the morning as well–when your parner is also likely to be the most virile (oh common girls, you know what that means!)

  23. Nina Says:

Works for me! Disappointments in business are easier to take
when you’ve had (or are going to have) a sweet session soon!
Regular sex makes it easier to go into battle again…

  24. Doris Says:

I totally agree with the idea and love the reasoning for this; however, since I am single and I can’t even remember when my last sexual encounter took place, it sounds to me as if I can’t be as successful because I simply don’t have regular sex. (sorry, if this sounds negative)

  25. Aranda Says:

Cook and clean and kids? You don’t have a partner? Year 2009…remember?

    Sex is always good!

  26. April Says:

Marie you are so clever to come up with this. So true that working so hard at home can leave us tired and not in the mood for anything! I think you’ve hit a nerve here. I’m curious, though, is this book some kind of joke? Are you pulling my leg? The whole toilet paper roll is throwing me off making me think this is a spoof or that I’m getting “punk’d”…what’s really going on?

  27. Josh Hurlock http://twitter.com/JoshHurlock Says:

    Marie,

Interesting take. Thanks for the post. I agree that a positive home life will enable one to be more productive at work. There is not something on one’s mind that will be distracting and take away from one’s ability to focus on business.

  28. Julie Says:

Ahem…. in response to Marlene – sweetie, just take matters into your OWN hands (so to speak!) No one can quite LOVE you like you “love” yourself! Plus, the no-drama… super safe… total bonus for a busy lifestyle! But of course, get out and find alternate ways to connect – make sure you’re getting the intimacy you need with friends and family… and when the right partner comes along (and typically you’ll find that they FIND YOU when you’re keyed into your pleasure center!) you’ll be all fired up and raring to go!

  29. Scott Bradley Says:

    Marie,

This is one of the best guest blogs we have had on this site. (Yes I say this everytime) but they keep getting better and better! You rock! Keep up the fantastic work!

  30. Mike Michalowicz Says:

@Julie – Is it really the same going solo though? I mean for the long term. I hear what Marlene is saying, jerks, bee-yotches, losers, gold diggers, etc. are NOT a good way to go. But going solo for a long time isn’t so great either.

Also you mention that the right person will FIND YOU when you are keyed in – talk to me here, are you suggesting law of attraction.

    - Mike

  31. Kari Andersen Says:

Great article and thanks for mentioning Oxytocin! That stuff rocks! It is possible to have an awesome partner/sex life AND have a successful business! Life is about BOTH/AND not either/or.

  32. May Says:

    Hi

Assuming you have a partner! What it you haven’t got anyone????

    Business is still good…….

    LONDON

  33. Mike Michalowicz Says:

May – Then you need to go solo. I am not just saying that… I asked Marie the exact same question, and that was her response. I actually have a video of her and I discussing this exact topic and will probably post within a week or so.

    - Mike
