GUEST POST – Business First Aid – Life Saving Tips On How To Survive The Economic Crisis – By Pearlin Siow

Pearlin SiowIn this season of economic and social turmoil, how can we stay optimistic about our future? How do we maintain focus on our goals…our dreams?

Here are seven (cheap) tips:

1. Go on a technology and/or news “fast”
A news fast – avoiding newspapers, the Internet and TV – can give you a much-needed break from draining, disheartening images and information.

2. Consider the glass half-full
We rarely acknowledge the progress we’ve made. Stopping to look at how far you’ve come is energizing. Pat yourself on the back and feel the charge!

3. Eat healthfully – and often
It’s the most obvious way to get pumped up and you will need your energy in today’s trying times. For sustained energy levels, eat smaller, more frequent meals (i.e. six meals of approximately 300-450 calories each) comprising 50% complex carbohydrates, 30% protein and 20% fat.

4. Take the opportunity to evaluate your business
How do you articulate your value proposition such that you make money? If you follow this simple, quick, and methodical approach, you will have developed your pitch and be able to effectively sell your service.

5. Take action
Do five specific actions daily that will move you closer to your goal. Jack Canfield, co-creator of Chicken Soup for the Soul, developed what he calls the “Rule of 5″ to reach his goal of getting Chicken Soup for the Soul, to the top of the New York Times Best-Seller List. Jack’s “Rule of 5″ requires that every day, he does five specific things to move his goal to completion. Chicken Soup for the Soul, eventually sold over eight million copies in 39 languages.

6. Think of ways to market your product innovatively
There are various ways to promote your company on the Internet for free. Some of my favorites include: contributing articles to content providers with a link back to your website, making comments on relevant websites and blogs, leaving a signature at the end of your email and offering to guest-write for relevant newsletters and blogs.

7. Plan B
Do you really love what you are doing or is there something that you like doing more? Having your own business should feel like an addiction and if you are not getting a high running one, it is going to destroy you. Like most addictions, it may destroy you even if you do love it. The only difference is that if you love what you are doing, you will have a great time on your way to destruction.
