A Mom’s Reaction To The Bad Economy
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
For me and so many of my friends, this is the first time in our adult lives that we have experienced such an economic crisis. All around me I hear stories of cutting back, friends losing jobs, 401K's vanishing. We are a people so clearly without control of our financial destinies! ...Or so it feels...

GUEST POST - Textbook to Checkbook by Harley Finkelstein
Friday, November 7th, 2008
In 2001 I moved from Boca Raton, Florida, to Montreal to study business at McGill University. Within a few weeks of my freshman year it became clear that my parents were no longer able to offer me financial support and that I needed to find a job. I cringed at the idea of working nights and weekends, between classes, and felt that my passion for business would be wasted serving coffee at the local meeting place. Instead I decided to launch a company in my spare time.

The Entrepreneur’s Holy Grail
Monday, October 6th, 2008
Ingenuity is one of the greatest assets you can have in business. It’s more important than money, connections, and education put together. Creative ideas and solutions are the Holy Grail of entrepreneurialism, and every great quest requires boatloads of the stuff in order to reach the destination.

GUEST POST - Cooler Heads Prevail by Kyle MacDonald of One Red Paperclip
Friday, October 3rd, 2008
Last week I arrived at the airport in Vancouver to board a flight to Montreal. Uncharacteristically, I brought a piece of luggage to check in. Well, it was a vintage metal cooler filled with underwear, audio gear and wine, but it's the closest thing I've ever had to luggage. The whole thing was secured with packing tape and covered in stickers. Nevertheless, the cooler had to be checked in. There were several bottles of pretty tasty wine in there.

Why Jamaica Can (And Will) Lead the World in Next Generation Entrepreneurialism
Tuesday, September 16th, 2008
Yes, Jamaica. You know the Jamaica I am talking about. The beautiful resorts, the amazing Dunn’s River Falls and the world famous “No problem, Mon!” white glove service. If you have visited Jamaica, via a flight to Montego Bay, that may be all you have ever seen, besides the few communities during your mad dash bus drive from the airport to your caged in resort. I have come as a tourist. I have done that. And I have relished the sliver of beauty I was exposed to.
My visit this September was not for vacation. It was to inspire people and show them the path of entrepreneurialism. Alas, they inspired me and have shown me the path.

Oops! How Blunders, Bloopers, and “Accidental” Stupidity Could Make You Millions
Monday, September 15th, 2008
It’s safe to say that no one wants to be f*ck up. We go to great lengths to avoid total humiliation – who wouldn’t? No one wants to get caught with his pants down. No, not that kind of mistake. I mean the getting-caught-doing-your-business kind of mistake. Keep the door shut (and your mind out of the gutter) already.

Sleeping in Mom’s Basement Ain’t Just for Losers
Monday, August 18th, 2008
It pisses me off when people say they don’t have enough money to start a business. That’s a load of crap!
Many of the biggest, strongest companies were launched in garages with just pocket change – Amazon and FedEx, for example. Yet Silicon Valley is littered with multi-million dollar dot.com start-ups that went belly up before they earned one penny of profit.

GUEST POST - ‘The Confidence to Face your Startup’ by Jared Lee
Friday, August 8th, 2008
The other night I was talking to a friend who dreams of opening her own business. She has the resources and the talent, but she lacks the self-confidence.
I have consulted with hundreds of entrepreneurs about building their business, and I am absolutely sure that more than money, contacts, and talent, the most important thing any business builder needs is confidence.
What happened to her confidence? Probably the same thing that has happened to many potential entrepreneurs, she works for a very large corporation. This large corporation provides her income, health care, retirement plan, security, and more. What she trades in for these things is her freedom.
