55 Seconds To… Increased Productivity
No pictures, not much text. Just 55 seconds until you’re productivity takes off:
1. Pen and paper –Ideas pop up all the time, and if you simply try to remember them in your head you will get distracted. Write them down immediately, so you never forget and don’t get distracted trying to remember.
2. Put on some good instrumentals - Studies show that listening to music while working gives you a boost in productivity, creativity and memory retention. And if there are no vocals in the tunes, you won’t be distracted while you sign along.
3. Get a plant – They make oxygen. Albeit we aren’t talkin’ rain forest amounts of O2, oxygen is a good thing for staying focused.
4. Out of site - Occasional breaks are key for refreshing yourself, but if “break time” is within your line of site it will be too tempting. Hide the squeeze ball, and turn off the Facebook.
5. Natural light – Ever go outside to soak in the air and sunlight? Makes you feel good and energized, right? Sit near a window and leave it slightly open. Your energy and productivity will flow.

Expanding on Point 1
If you’re doing web research, keep handwritten notes of other sites to visit or searches to perform. It dramatically cuts down on time and effort (not to mention reducing the number of open browser windows on your screen).

@Seth – Thanks! That is a great suggestion, and it keeps the desktop (the virtual desktop, that is) clutter free.

I also set goals in a game format. For instance: by 10am I will have this, this, and this done! Then I reward myself for coffee and a ten minute break doing something I enjoy like reading the news, stalking my Facebook friends,(haha)etc. I also suggest Rolling stones for music
They really get me in the zone!
Mike- thanks again for the tips, I need to get a plant!

I think these ideas are awesome. I agree with the music with no vocals part, as well as the plant. The plant idea reminded me of Catholic elementary school, where there were a few plants in every classroom. No wonder I did so much better there!
